The Lakers cleaned out their lockers after another early playoff ricochet, but I'm still working. My editor wanted five moves that would help the Lakers, wouldn't be ridiculed by opposing general managers and would be allowed under the NBA's complicated transaction guidelines. Keep in mind that the Lakers have extremely limited purchasing power for free agents and are an old team with a bloated payroll. Put it this way: Nobody is calling General Manager Mitch Kupchak at 3 a.m., begging him to part with Metta World Peace for two first-rounders.

Looking ahead HOUSTON AT NEW YORK: Monday, 4:30 p.m. PST. TV: NBA TV Jeremy Lin returns to the birthplace of Linsanity, having morphed into merely "meh" with the Houston Rockets. He has shown flashes of the phenomenon that captivated the nation last season, scoring 38 points in a recent loss to San Antonio, but he's largely become an average NBA point guard. Meanwhile, the Knicks have become one of the league's leading surprises in part because of Lin's replacement, Raymond Felton.

Charlotte Bobcat rookie point guard Raymond Felton was slightly injured in a car accident and his status for a six-game trip was unclear. He was vacationing in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Sunday when his car was rear-ended at a red light, the team said Monday. He sustained whiplash and complained of a sore back. "My friends and I are blessed to escape this accident with only minor injuries, and thankfully I was wearing my seat belt," Felton said in a statement.

The madness shifts gears What's the difference between Linsanity and insanity? One L too many for the New York Knicks. Of course, it wasn't the Knicks having lost eight of their previous 10 games that prompted Coach Mike D'Antoni to resign Wednesday as much as it was D'Antoni having failed in his efforts to coexist with forward Carmelo Anthony. D'Antoni's offensive system is ideally suited to player and ball movement; Anthony prefers to have the ball in his hands and to take as many shots as possible.
