When: 7:30. Where: Home Depot Center. On the air: TV: None; Radio: 690. Records: Chivas USA 3-1-1, Rapids 1-3-2. Record vs Rapids (2012): 0-2-1. Update: After overhauling its roster and naming a new coach in the off-season, Chivas USA was expected to struggle early this season. But through five games, the team has been surprisingly strong and sits second in the West behind FC Dallas. Chivas USA's record includes a tie with the Galaxy, winner of the last two Major League Soccer titles, on March 17. The Rapids are off to a poor start but are coming off their first win of the season, 1-0 over Real Salt Lake.

Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez and Club Tijuana midfielder Joe Corona were among 23 players called up to the U.S. national soccer team Monday ahead of crucial World Cup qualifiers with Costa Rica on Friday in Denver and March 26 against Mexico in Mexico City. One game into the final round of qualifying for Brazil 2014, the U.S. is the only country in its six-team regional pool without a point. The U.S. team has been hit hard by injuries that have left eight regulars, including keeper and captain Tim Howard, unavailable.

The Galaxy on Monday named Chris Klein, a former Galaxy player who had moved to the Major League Soccer team's front office, to be club president, a post that had been vacant. Klein, 37, was a vice president of the reigning MLS champions after retiring as a player following the 2010 season. The St. Louis native spent the last 3 1/2 years of his 12-year playing career with the Galaxy. Before that he played with Kansas City, where he helped the team win the MLS Cup in 2000, and with Real Salt Lake.

The Galaxy will renew its Home Depot Center rivalry with the Houston Dynamo on May 5, highlighting a 34-game regular-season schedule released Wednesday. Galaxy defenders Omar Gonzalez and A.J. De La Garza were among 25 players called into this week's training camp for the U.S. soccer team, but Galaxy captain Landon Donovan was not on the list, making it unlikely the national team's all-time leading scorer will play in the opening match of the final round of World Cup qualifying next month in Honduras. Also invited to camp at the Home Depot Center in Carson was Chivas USA striker Juan Agudelo and former Galaxy forward Edson Buddle, who was traded to the Colorado Rapids last month.

Mario Martinez ended a season-long scoring drought for the Seattle Sounders against Real Salt Lake when he found the net in the 81st minute, helping Seattle advance to the Western Conference final with a 1-0 victory Thursday night at Sandy, Utah, after the teams played to a scoreless tie in the first leg of their series. The third-seeded Sounders scored for the first time in five games against Real Salt Lake this season, including the opener of this semifinal Nov. 2 at Seattle.

Galaxy captain Landon Donovan was named to the U.S. national team Monday in advance of two crucial World Cup qualifiers over the next week. But the bigger news was the names left off the 24-man roster. U.S. Coach Juergen Klinsmann did not call up forwards Jozy Altidore and Chris Wondolowski. Altidore is tied for the scoring lead in the Dutch Eredivisie with eight goals in as many games. Wondolowski is on pace to tie Major League Soccer's single-season scoring record. The U.S. needs a win and a draw in its next two matches to be certain of advancing to the final stage of regional qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Galaxy captain Landon Donovan was among 24 players called up Monday by Coach Juergen Klinsmann for the U.S. national team's crucial set of World Cup qualifiers. The U.S takes on Antigua & Barbuda on Friday in Antigua before playing host to Guatemala on Oct. 16 in Kansas City, Kan. The Americans need a win and a draw in those two games to advance to next year's hexagonal round of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. "The mentality we are bringing into these two games is to get six points," Klinsmann said.

When: 4 p.m. Where: Home Depot Center. On the air: TV: Galavision, Prime Ticket. Records: Chivas USA 7-17-7, FC Dallas 9-12-10. Record vs. Real Salt Lake: 0-0-1. Update: Chivas USA, officially eliminated Wednesday from a playoff race it unofficially exited more than a month ago, can all but end FC Dallas' postseason hopes as well with a win Sunday. But Chivas would have to score to accomplish that, and the Western Conference cellar-dwellers haven't found the back of the net in their last 532 minutes, the fourth-longest scoreless streak in MLS history.

Landon Donovan's availability for key World Cup qualifiers against Antigua & Barbuda and Guatemala was thrown in doubt Saturday after the Galaxy captain was carried off the field on a stretcher with a knee injury late in his team's 2-1 loss to Real Salt Lake at the Home Depot Center. The Galaxy said Donovan would undergo tests "as soon as possible" but that could mean Monday morning, when U.S. national team Coach Juergen Klinsmann is scheduled to announce the 23 call-ups for Friday's match in Antigua and the Oct. 16 game with Guatemala in Kansas City, Kansas.
