In the annals of Hollywood disorderly conduct, Reese Witherspoon's arrest Friday in Atlanta doesn't come near the anti-Semitic abuse that Mel Gibson showered on law enforcement when he was stopped for driving under the influence in 2006. Still, Witherspoon's protestations when her husband, talent agent James Toth, was pulled over for erratic driving and was performing a field sobriety test confirms some of the worst stereotypes about people of privilege. Don't Toth and Witherspoon know that in the U.S. in 2010 (the last year for which data is available)

Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz joined gal pal Drew Barrymore and others for a "girls trip" in Napa Valley this week that's giving us major culinary envy. The A-listers headed up to the Northern California wine country on Wednesday for what Witherspoon, 37, dubbed #girlstrip2014 , or what we want to refer to as "Charlie's Angels" meets "Eat Pray Love" with a dash of "Julie and Julia" and some "Legally Blonde" mixed in for good measure. The leading ladies took a cooking class at the Culinary Institute of America in St. Helena , just north of Napa, at the majestic Greystone property.

A delightful new entry in the Celebrities Behaving Badly file comes to us this week from Atlanta, where the Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, 37, arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, apparently confused the traffic stop with an audition for an American Express commercial: “Do you know my name?” she asked the cop who arrested her after she interfered with her husband's drunk driving arrest. “You're about to find out who I am.” Sunday, the chastened actress apologized: “I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said.

Reese Witherspoon was with her family in Tennessee on Friday for an emergency hearing before a judge whose responsibilities include the creation and supervision of conservatorships.   Witherspoon could be seen on video, posted by the Tennessean , holding her father John Witherspoon's arm as they entered the closed courtroom. According to that outlet, she and her brother asked the judge to place the 70-year-old under a conservatorship. Court documents from Friday's hearing were reportedly ordered sealed, but the same restrictions didn't apply to a lawsuit filed earlier in the week by Betty Witherspoon, John's wife and Reese's mom. Citing bigamy, her suit seeks the annulment of her husband's recent marriage to a woman named Tricianne Taylor.

The film version of Cheryl Strayed's memoir "Wild" is picking up steam: Reese Witherspoon has signed on to portray the author. In the book, Strayed writes of hiking the 1,000-mile Pacific Crest trail alone, compelled by grief over her mother's death, a failed relationship and a need to seek out answers. Oprah Winfrey found it so compelling that she revived her shuttered book club for it. "Wild" was a 2012 bestseller. The film has a strong literary pedigree -- in addition to the original book, the screenplay was written by Nick Hornby, author of "High Fidelity" and "About a Boy. " As a novelist, Hornby has had a number of bestsellers, and he received an Oscar nomination for his screenplay of "An Education.

Jewel may have come from the Lilith Fair generation of female singers and songwriters, but her latest move pays homage to a much earlier era of guitar-playing troubadours. The 39-year-old is taking on the role of June Carter Cash in "Ring of Fire," a Lifetime movie scheduled to premiere Monday. The film, directed by Allison Anders, throws the spotlight squarely on the woman casual music fans may know only as Johnny Cash's wife. It's no easy task since Jewel is following in the footsteps of Reese Witherspoon, who won an Oscar for lead actress in the 2005 biopic "Walk the Line.
