Supporters of Ross Perot's proposed Reform Party did not submit enough valid signatures to qualify for the ballot in Maine, officials said Thursday. Nearly a third of the signatures submitted by the group in December were ruled invalid, leaving it with 515 fewer than the 25,565 needed, Secretary of State William Diamond said. The group had until Dec. 15 to collect and submit its signatures to qualify for the 1996 ballot.
