Maybe it's the intense glare she often gives opponents. It could have something to do with the taunting smile that accompanies the stare, or the way she shakes her fists in triumph after making a difficult shot. Certainly, her mouth could be a factor, as it tends to shoot off at various times, on and off the court. More than likely, however, it is a combination of these things, along with her energy level and talent, that has gained UCLA's Rehema Stephens a reputation as a hot-tempered hotshot.

Rehema Stephens had 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead UCLA to an 80-66 victory over Old Dominion Tuesday night in a women's basketball game at Norfolk, Va. Nicole Anderson had 13 points and Detra Lockhart 12 for UCLA (4-4). T.J. Jones had 18 points for Old Dominion (1-6).

Falisha Wright had 35 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and six steals to lead San Diego State to a 77-52 women's basketball victory over UCLA Sunday. Wright broke the Wooden Center single-game scoring record of 34 points set by the Bruins' Rehema Stephens last season against Oregon. San Diego State is 3-0. Michelle Palmisano had 13 points for UCLA (1-1).

Guard Rehema Stephens scored 26 points and had a career-high 17 rebounds to lead the UCLA women to a 72-58 victory over No. 22 Ohio State Wednesday night at Pauley Pavilion. Ohio State (4-2) shot only 32% and had 26 turnovers. UCLA (4-2) next plays top-ranked Virginia Dec. 28 at Pauley.

Rehema Stephens scored a career-high 31 points to lead UCLA women's basketball team to a 84-75 victory over Cal State Fullerton Friday night at UCLA. Sandra Van Embricqs had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Bruins (4-1). Genia Miller had 34 points and 18 rebounds for the Titans (3-2).

Lynn Kamrath, a 6-foot 4-inch high school All-American center/forward from Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wis., will attend UCLA on a women's basketball scholarship. She averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds and 6 blocked shots a game last season. The Bruins also announced that Rehema Stephens, a 6-foot forward, is transferring to UCLA from Colorado. She'll be eligible in 1989-90.

Freshman Jackie Freeman scored 20 points and handed out five assists, both career highs, and combined with Krissy Heinbaugh for 13 stretch-run points to lead the James Madison women's basketball team to a 78-72 victory over UCLA Monday. The Bruins (3-2) led, 59-58, with 7:10 to play and 65-63 at 2:07 when James Madison (4-1) went on its final run. Madison outscored UCLA, 15-7, the rest of the way. Rehema Stephens and DeDe Mosman led the Bruins with 16 points each.

hThe UCLA women's basketball team used accurate free-throw shooting to defeat Arizona State, 81-68, in a Pacific 10 Conference game Friday night at the Wooden Center. The Bruins, who outscored the Sun Devils, 42-30, in the second half, made 27 of 36 foul shots as they improved to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the Pac-10. Sophomore point guard Nicole Anderson led UCLA with 22 points. Guard Rehema Stephens added 19. Guard Crystal Cobb led Arizona State (10-3, 1-2) with 20 points.
