Six miles from Disney's Burbank headquarters, in an unlabeled two-story office building in North Hollywood, is the late Disney's other, more obscure corporate offspring: Retlaw Enterprises Inc. (Retlaw is "Walter" spelled backward.

Fisher Cos., a Seattle-based company with businesses ranging from broadcasting stations to flour milling, is expected to announce today that it has agreed to buy the TV broadcasting assets of Retlaw Enterprises, a Walt Disney family-owned company, for $215 million in cash, according to those familiar with the deal.

Dozens of Topanga Canyon schoolchildren and their parents took up placards Tuesday and marched outside Walt Disney Studios in Burbank to protest a luxury housing project and golf course proposed for their rural community. Problem was, they were in the wrong place. "Disney has nothing to do with the project," said Bob Wilson, president of the partnership proposing the project called Canyon Oaks Estates.

When it comes to being a Disney, it's like father, like son. And like grandfather and great-uncle. Roy Patrick Disney, the 35-year-old son of Roy E. Disney and great-nephew of the late Walt Disney, is following in the footsteps of his famous relatives with his new business venture, Apogee Communications Inc. in Burbank. Apogee, which recently changed its name from Newspeak Inc., was formed in October and is now hot on the acquisition trail for media properties--specifically, radio stations.

Most families have traditions such as Sunday dinner and a special recipe for pot roast. In keeping with the Disney family heritage, Shamrock Holdings Inc. is planning to invest more heavily in radio stations. Shamrock, based in Burbank, is wholly owned by the family of Roy Edward Disney.

The Van Nuys Airport area is arguably the best office location in the San Fernando Valley, but it suffers from an image problem. Centrally located though it is, with good access to the San Diego, Ventura and Simi Valley freeways, in the middle of a sea of relatively affordable housing, the area lacks the glamour of Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks or Encino or Warner Center in Woodland Hills and Canoga Park.
