ARLINGTON, Texas - Nothing like putting out a juicy oh-by-the-way rumor before the biggest college basketball game of the season. But former Kentucky star Rex Chapman tweeted before Monday night's national title game that Kentucky Coach John Calipari will be the next coach of the Lakers. Chapman doesn't site any sources or offer any timetable. Calipari said this week he was probably going to need his hip replaced shortly after Monday night's title game between Kentucky and Connecticut.

Where will John Calipari be coaching next season?  Will he leave the Kentucky Wildcats to join the Lakers? "I still think Kentucky," said Rex Chapman on "The Dan Patrick Show" on Tuesday. Chapman started a firestorm on Monday, tweeting that Calipari is a " done deal " to the Lakers. The Lakers quickly denied the rumor. "Mike D'Antoni is our coach," said Lakers spokesman John Black.  "There have been no conversations about any specific names for any replacement.

Injured guard Rex Chapman was traded by the Charlotte Hornets to the Washington Bullets for forward Tom Hammonds. Chapman the Hornets' all-time scoring leader, has missed the last 30 games because of a bruised left heel. Hammonds has averaged 11.9 points and five rebounds in 37 games this season.

Chapman sprained his left ankle in Saturday's 110-95 loss to Dallas, and Keys broke the ring finger on his right hand last week. The Hornets signed free agents Scott Haffner and Jeff Sanders to 10-day contracts. Chapman will be out about two weeks, Keys for about six weeks.

Chapman, the former Kentucky star, was the eighth pick in the 1988 NBA draft and the Hornets' first-ever draft choice. Chapman, the Hornets' all-time scoring leader, has missed the last 30 games because of a bruised left heel. "I'm happy," said Chapman, who hopes to begin playing by mid-March.

The Washington Bullets' leading scorer, guard Rex Chapman, will be sidelined for up to 10 weeks after he dislocated his right ankle in Monday's 100-87 loss to the San Antonio Spurs at Landover, Md. Chapman, who is averaging 18.4 points a game, suffered the injury when he landed on the foot of the Spurs' Lloyd Daniels while driving toward the basket in the first quarter. San Antonio's Dale Ellis scored 16 of his 20 points before halftime as the Spurs took control late in the first half.
