Rexhall Industries Inc., a Santa Clarita maker of mobile homes, said its profit in the third quarter that ended Sept. 30 was $492,000, down 4% from $513,000 a year earlier. Sales were $15.5 million, up 11% from $14.02 million in the third quarter last year. For the first nine months of 1995, the profit was $1.58 million, up slightly from $1.57 million in the same period of 1994. Sales for the nine months were $46.07 million, up 28% from $35.93 million a year ago.

Rexhall Industries Inc., a Saugus manufacturer of motor homes, reported a profit of $137,000 for its first quarter, in contrast to a loss of $170,000 a year earlier. For the three months that ended March 31, the company's sales climbed 54% from a year earlier, to $5.78 million from $3.76 million. Rexhall attributed the increase to its new Aerbus models, an improving economy and an expanded dealer network outside of California.

Two years ago, Rexhall Industries Inc. was in overdrive. The Saugus motor-home maker, which opened in 1986, had seen its sales soar to $34 million in 1989--a year when nationwide shipments of recreational vehicles fell 2%. But in 1989 Rexhall's profits more than doubled to $2.27 million from $918,000 the year before.

Sales for the motor-home manufacturer increased to $22.2 million, a 56.9% jump from $14.1 million for the same period in the prior year.

A 15% increase in third-quarter sales compared with the same period in 1997 helped Rexhall Industries, the Lancaster-based maker of recreational vehicles, nearly triple its earnings-per-share figures, the company said. Rexhall reported earnings of 32 cents per diluted share for the 1998 third quarter, which ended Sept. 30, against earnings of 11 cents per diluted share in the year-ago period.

Rexhall Industries Inc., a maker of mobile homes, has completed its move from Saugus to Lancaster. The company had originally planned to move to Nevada or Arizona in search of lower workers' compensation premiums, but then was courted by Lancaster, which offered the firm 10 acres of land for a dollar, said Bernie Alivio, director of investment relations. Rexhall has completed an 87,000-square-foot plant on the site and began operation in January, he said.
