Allen I. Questrom, the highly regarded former chairman of Bullock's and Bullocks Wilshire, on Friday was formally named president and chief executive of Neiman Marcus, the prestigious Dallas-based specialty store chain. At the same time, Richard C. Marcus, grandson of one of the chain's co-founders, announced his resignation as chairman and chief executive.

At the same time, Richard C. Marcus, grandson of one of the chain's co-founders, announced his resignation as chairman and chief executive.

Allen I. Questrom, 48, former chairman of Bullock's and Bullocks Wilshire, is negotiating to become chairman and chief executive of Neiman-Marcus, according to several retailing executives who say he would replace Richard C. Marcus, son of one of the chain's noted former executives. Janine Dusossoit, a spokeswoman for General Cinema, was asked Wednesday when an announcement would be made that Questrom was taking over as chairman of Neiman-Marcus.

In an unexpected move, David L. Dworkin resigned Friday as president of Neiman-Marcus, a specialty store chain that was recently spun off from Carter Hawley Hale Stores as part of the Los Angeles-based retailer's restructuring. Dworkin, 43, who had served as president of the prestigious Dallas-based division since joining it in 1984, said in a telephone interview, "I don't have any plans. . . . I'm really going to take some time off."
