Richard E. Goodspeed, 54, president of Lucky supermarkets' Northern California stores, has been named to a new position in charge of the chain's outlets throughout the state. The move was precipitated by the departure of William E. Yingling, president of Lucky's Southern California division. Yingling has been named chairman and chief executive of Thrifty Corp. Richard E. Fredericksen, 51, has been named executive vice president and general manager for Lucky's Northern California division.

Santa Monica-based Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. sold shares in a $180-million initial public offering intended to go toward reducing the film studio's debt load, said Merrill Lynch & Co., which managed the sale. The 9 million shares sold were at the bottom of the expected range of $20 to $23 a share. The studio has a market value of about $1.3 billion, according to the IPO filing. . . . Vons Cos. scored a coup Monday against chief rival Lucky Stores by naming two executives from Lucky's parent company to help head Southern California's largest supermarket chain. Lawrence Del Santo, 60, senior executive vice president and chief operating officer of food operations at Salt Lake City-based American Stores, will become Von's vice chairman and chief executive beginning today. Del Santo's television commercials for Lucky have made him a familiar figure in many Southland homes.
