It was the first of the funerals for the 24 victims of the tornado that devastated Oklahoma City and the suburb of Moore. Antonia, known as "Tonie”  had the “sweetest, most gentle and loving spirit about her,” according to her obituary.  “She was a beautiful young lady on the inside and out. The story of Rick Jones' youth probably isn't the saddest you've ever read, and he knows it. When he talks about his life, he does so without a trace of self-pity or bitterness. It's just not his way. He knows there are others who have had it worse. Jones was 5 when his father left his mother, Lucille, and never came back. Without her husband, Lucille Jones raised her family on food stamps, welfare and love.

In science laboratories, they are classified as terrestrial isopod crustaceans (suborder Oniscoidea). But you probably call them pill bugs. Or sow bugs. Or even roly-polies. In any case, the habit of these little creepy crawlies is to roll themselves into balls whenever trouble comes their way, something we'd all like do from time to time. Rick Jones knows this feeling. In 1989, his first year as football coach at El Dorado, the Golden Hawks went 0-10. Last year, they were 2-8.

I didn't read your editorial (June 27) in your "dirty little paper" about Reagan's "dirty little war" because I don't buy your "dirty little paper" except once in a while on Sundays for the crossword puzzle. From reading your letters, it's obviously OK with you if the Soviets have a base on our hemisphere because obviously you agree with the Sandinista government. Your "dirty little paper" is a disgrace. If you do call yourself American you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

MICHIGAN The 2,200 residents of Potterville were told that they cannot go home for at least another day while crews clean up a freight train derailment that left some cars leaking propane. Some people in the town 12 miles southwest of Lansing may be able to return home today, Eaton County Sheriff Rick Jones said. The Grand Trunk train derailed Monday, sending 35 of its 58 cars off the tracks and forcing the evacuation of the city. No injuries were reported.

Azita Zendel spent four years as Oliver Stone's assistant, and her debut feature, "Controlled Chaos," is a roman a clef revealing what it was like to cover up for a tempestuous, demanding, Oscar-winning director with a messy private life and substance-abuse issues. Zendel, of course, is not saying that her Rick Jones is literally Stone, and what's more, she strives to be fair-minded in her presentation of Jones, who seems to believe that anything his own private Dr.
