In accordance with established Quentin Tarantino tradition , the upcoming soundtrack to the director's "Django Unchained" is to feature no shortage of crate-digger's delights, including Jim Croce's " I Got a Name " and vintage film music by Ennio Morricone. For what he's describing as the first time in his career, though, Tarantino also commissioned original songs from a handful of artists, the largest and most in-charge of whom made his contribution available for streaming on Friday: In "100 Black Coffins" Rick Ross boasts that he looks like Big Daddy Kane over an eerie, whistle-enriched beat produced by the film's star, Jamie Foxx.

Rick Ross' controversial lyrics that seemed to promote date rape resulted in the superstar rapper-mogul being dropped as a spokesperson for Reebok. After intense pressure from a number of organizations, including anti-sexism collective UltraViolet, the athletic company announced Thursday it had parted ways with Ross. “Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so,” Reebok said in a statement to The Times.

Sean Combs has been called many things over the last 20 years of his career: Puff, Puff Daddy, Puffy, P. Diddy or simply "the D, the I, the D, the D, the Y. " Although he famously shed his “Puff Daddy” moniker back in 2001, he never really ditched it. Sure, we've called him Diddy for more than a dozen years, but the rap mogul is going back to his roots to roll out his upcoming album. On Monday, Combs (sorry, Puff Daddy) rolled out a minute-long teaser video for a new track, “Big Homie.” RELATED: Sean Combs talks Euro-infused album, reinvention In the clip, he offers only a few seconds of the actual track, which will feature Rick Ross and French Montana, but there's some dramatic shots of his beloved New York City and of him strolling through a bodega, because Puff Daddy frequents corner stores.

MUSIC Rick Ross has a delightfully titled full-length, "God Forgives, I Don't," to showcase his clipped, gruff delivery atop brutally gothic and synthetic beats. His rise to rap's upper echelon was unlikely, but his strong charisma and idiosyncratic flow look likely to remain a genre staple. Nokia Theatre, 777 Chick Hearn Court, L.A. 8 p.m. Fri. $65-$150. Rick Ross' two seizures aboard two different airplanes within hours of one another has had many around Ross voicing concern for the Teflon Don's health. The rapper, on his way to perform at a gig with the University of Memphis basketball team, suffered a seizure on Friday morning, forcing the Delta flight he was on to make an emergency landing in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He received medical attention at a hospital there, and backers insisted he was fine. Ross said he would be keeping the night's interstate engagement and even posted a video of himself on Twitter on board a private jet headed for Tennessee.

God forgives, and evidently Rick Ross doesn't. But that kind of lyrical bravado doesn't preclude him from canceling some concerts over rumors of gang attacks. Ross, the Miami rap-chart stalwart and upcoming headliner of Power 106 FM's  Cali Christmas , had reportedly earned the ire of a North Carolina chapter of the Gangster Disciples, a gang whose imprisoned leader, Larry Hoover, was once the object of a Ross metaphor in his single "B.M.F. " Ross' cover art for his mixtape "Black Bar Mitzvah" also used a Star of David design that resembles the six-pointed star logo used by the Disciples.

For the last week Rick Ross has been engulfed in a firestorm over recent lyrics that seemingly promote date rape. Although the track, "U.O.E.N.O. " (a collaboration with Future and Atlanta emcee Rocko; warning: link contains profanity) has been out for more than a month - it's lifted from Rocko's latest mixtape - the largely forgettable song has started to gain traction from the masses due to Ross' controversial guest verse. "Put Molly all in her champagne/ She ain't even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that/ She ain't even know it," he raps on the track.

AUSTIN, Texas - Rick Ross had come to South by Southwest, as indeed he goes most places, to boast. "I just celebrated my fifth No. 1 album," the Miami rapper said Saturday night at the Fader Fort. Last week, Ross's so-so "Mastermind" debuted atop the Billboard 200, beating out competition that included Pharrell Williams' heavily promoted "G I R L" and the Oscar-winning "Frozen" soundtrack. The record, he wrote on Twitter before the show, "contains only the highest grade of execution.

Was it the public outcry that got to him, or Reebok's decision to drop him as a pitchman? In either case, rapper-mogul Rick Ross has issued an apology for lyrics contained in his guest appearance with rapper Rocko on the track "U.O.E.N.O" that seemed to condone date rape. Here's the statement Ross released Friday morning: “Before I am an artist, I am a father, a son, and a brother to some of the most cherished women in the world. So for me to suggest in any way that harm and violation be brought to a woman is one of my biggest mistakes and regrets.

"Frozen" is back at No. 1. After two weeks in which rap albums by first Schoolboy Q and then Rick Ross dominated the Billboard 200, the soundtrack to Disney's smash-hit animated feature returned to the top spot Wednesday, reflecting sales of 99,000 copies in the week ending March 16, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Those numbers push the disc's sales this year past the 1 million mark -- more than any other album has sold so far in 2014, notes Keith Caulfield at Billboard.

Give Rick Ross credit for playing to his strengths. Though the Miami rapper's new album "Mastermind" is largely a disappointment -- a stale rehash of ideas he's served up far more convincingly elsewhere -- Ross wisely focused on the record's best song for his performance Thursday night on "The Arsenio Hall Show. " And he didn't do " Sanctified " by himself, either, but brought out two of his A-list pals to the delight of Hall's audience: Kanye West and Big Sean, both of whom appear on the track on "Mastermind.

Rick Ross built his career rapping about his exploits as an above-the-law drug kingpin, a front he kept up even after it was famously revealed that in a previous life the Miami MC had once worked as a Dade County corrections officer. The news might reasonably have killed his ascent. But having survived the intrusion of reality, Ross doubled down on artifice, and since then his tales of a lavish and dangerous lifestyle have made him one of hip-hop's most successful stars. When he took the stage Wednesday night at Club Nokia, Ross was clearly hoping to control his image once again in the wake of yet another damaging episode.

Tuesday night, a " band of robbers" caused a fracas on the streets of Hollywood. Inside the Fonda Theatre nearby, comedian Eric Andre was making a melee of his own. The absurdist mock-talk-show host has become a staple of Adult Swim, with his sendups of late-night yuk fests that usually spiral into delirious nonsense before the walk-on music is over. At the Fonda, the crowd scampered across the floor to get out of the way of Andre's first act -- running around in a white suit while spraying ketchup, throwing food, diving into collapsible furniture and throwing huge bricks of bar straws at his own fans.

Corporations are quick to recruit rappers to sell their soft drinks, shoes and smartphones - but the moment there's a whiff of controversy, they are just as quick to cut them loose. The latest example is PepsiCo and Lil Wayne. Last week, the soft drink company announced it had ended its relationship with Wayne, one of the biggest selling rappers in music, over a vulgar sexual reference to slain civil rights figure Emmett Till in a remix of Future's hit, "Karate Chop. " Wayne's controversy followed similar flaps between PepsiCo and Tyler, the Creator over a video ad the rapper created that some deemed racist and sexist, and Reebok and Rick Ross after he rapped about slipping a party drug in a woman's drink and taking her home.
