With time running out and the Lakers up by three, Kobe Bryant blocked Ricky Rubio's three-point attempt at the buzzer - or so it seemed. The Lakers left Minnesota on Wednesday with a 120-117 victory over the Wolves, but Bryant got away with a favorable non-call. According to the Associated Press , the NBA has told the Timberwolves on Thursday that the foul was missed, and that Rubio should have been given three free-throw attempts. Bryant had dismissed the notion after the game Wednesday.

The Lakers (16-31) will finally get some players back on Tuesday night, after struggling through much of the season with their top three point guards on the mend. Steve Nash (back), Steve Blake (elbow) and Jordan Farmar (hamstring) might all be available when the Lakers visit the Minnesota Timberwolves (23-24). The Wolves have had their own injury issues, most notably losing center Nikola Pekovic to an ankle injury. Of course, the Lakers will be at a disadvantage with Pau Gasol (groin)

As the Lakers prepare for their visit to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night, Wolves point guard Ricky Rubio spoke out on behalf of fellow Spaniard Pau Gasol. "[Gasol] proved to the league he is one of the best," Rubio told reporters in Minneapolis. "He can pass. He can shoot. He can rebound. He can do a lot of things. I think if you use him in the right way, he is a top player in this league. If they don't want him, we are more than welcome to get him. " Gasol has voiced his frustration multiple times this season, especially on his recent move to the bench.

Timberwolves 109 - Lakers 99 (end of regulation) The Lakers gave a strong effort against the Timberwolves, holding Minnesota to just 41 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough for a win. Minnesota ended a two-game losing streak with their wire-to-wire, 109-99 win over the Lakers despite playing without starting center Nikola Pekovic. The Lakers drop their seventh straight game, despite getting Steve Nash and Steve Blake back from injury. Nash played just under 25 minutes, scoring seven points with nine assists.  Blake, who suffered a punctured ear drum in the game, but kept playing, finished with six assists and three steals without scoring.

The comparisons between Minnesota rookie guard Ricky Rubio and Hall of Famer Pete Maravich can stop right now. "No. No. Not even close," Timberwolves Coach Rick Adelman said emphatically. Adelman also rejected the suggestion there might be similarities between the soft-spoken Spaniard and Terry Porter, the Minnesota assistant coach who had a distinguished, 17-year NBA career. "I think we get in trouble in this league all the time trying to manufacture players into someone that you want them to be and not let them be themselves," Adelman said.

Ricky Rubio's rookie season has come to an abrupt end. The Minnesota Timberwolves point guard will sit out the rest of the season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, the team announced Saturday. Now the upstart Timberwolves will have to keep chasing a playoff berth without one of the players who was most responsible for the franchise's resurgence. "I feel bad for Ricky having to miss the rest of this season," team President David Kahn said in a statement.

MILWAUKEE - The NBA doesn't retroactively change calls on a daily basis. It just seems like it to the Lakers. The latest day-after fix involving them was announced by the league Thursday. Turns out a foul should have been called on Kobe Bryant during Ricky Rubio's last-second, desperate, 28-foot three-point attempt in the Lakers' 120-117 victory Wednesday over the Minnesota Timberwolves. The NBA office reviewed the play and said Rubio was fouled "in his shooting motion" and should have received three free throws.

MINNEAPOLIS - It was the way Clippers All-Star point guard Chris Paul made NBA history Wednesday that was so impressive. It was the way Paul shredded Minnesota's defense in passing Hall of Fame member Magic Johnson's record that was so awe-inspiring. Paul shook free of his early shooting struggles and delivered the game's most important moments in carrying the Clippers to a 102-98 victory over the Timberwolves at the Target Center. BOX SCORE: Clippers 102, Minnesota 98 He had 16 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 20, and by adding 11 assists for his 12th consecutive double-double, Paul is alone in the history books.

Clippers guard J.J. Redick is one of the NBA's top scorers in the first quarter. Through the first eight games, Redick has averaged 8.3 points per game in the first quarter. He averages 16.3 points per game overall. That ranks him as the fourth-best scorer in the first quarter behind Minnesota's Kevin Love (9.1 points), Minnesota's Kevin Martin (9.0) and Utah's Gordon Hayward (8.4). "It just opens it up for everybody," Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said about going to Redick early.

The whiteboard inside the Lakers' locker room spelled out the defensive plan in various shades of marker. Find Kevin Martin. Watch Kevin Love's outlet passes. Make Ricky Rubio a shooter and not a driver. Fail. Fail. Fail. At least the Lakers were consistent. In a performance so appalling they were booed in the first quarter, the Lakers reached a new low Sunday night at Staples Center during a laughably lopsided 113-90 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
