Uber is now accepting Paypal. The popular ride service app announced on its blog that it will accept PayPal as a form of payment in the United States, Germany, Italy, France and the Netherlands. "One of the most important things we've learned: While we Americans charge our credit cards with abandon, not everyone does," the company said. Uber is rolling out a limited-time discount to celebrate the news: Through Nov. 28, customers can get $15 off their next ride when they pay with PayPal.

Re "It's a win-win situation, unless you're a cabbie," June 30 The rapid emergence of services like Lyft demonstrates what is to be gained by reducing the barriers public authority erects around transit. Calls for legal steps to shut out innovators always come from the largest firms. They have the highest fleet coordination costs and stand to lose the most. Think how much new service private buses could provide if we opened the market to providers that depended on attracting fares instead of taxes.

Photos: Top 10 Holiday World rides and attractions The family-owned theme park prides itself on its collection of record-setting rides and an award-winning water park that's included with the price of admission. In 1946, park founder Louis Koch opened Santa Claus Land in this small Indiana town to pay tribute to the town's namesake elf. The self-proclaimed “world's first theme park” featured a train, a toy shop, a few kiddie rides and, of course, daily visits by Santa Claus.

In compiling my top 10 list for Legoland California , I tried to combine must-see attractions with  one-of-a-kind rides you can’t find anywhere else. Photo Gallery : View the Top 10 Legoland California rides and attractions Legoland perfectly hits its demographic of minivan-driving soccer moms and their stroller-bound charges and 'tween siblings. The pink-knuckle rides offer a tiny dose of mild thrills for the littlest kids, who are often underserved at typical theme parks . That said, the Carlsbad kiddie park features a disappointingly high number of attractions that parents can't ride with their kids.

It's a relief to animal welfare advocates -- and elephants, no doubt -- that the board of the Orange County Fair voted last week to end the 25-year tradition of elephant rides at the annual event.  The Santa Ana Zoo announced in December that it too would halt elephant rides, which have nearly vanished as entertainment at institutions accredited by the Assn. of Zoos and Aquariums.  The Los Angeles County Fair was urged last year by animal welfare advocates -- and this paper's editorial page -- to stop elephant rides, although fair officials continued the attraction anyway.

Don't get your hopes up, Marvel fans. The new Iron Man ride coming to Hong Kong Disneyland in 2016 won't be easily replicated at other Disney theme parks around the world. PHOTOS: Iron Man Experience at Hong Kong Disneyland The $100-million Iron Man Experience will be similar to Star Tours, a simulator ride based on another of Disney's tent-pole properties: Star Wars. Recent updates to the Star Tours attractions at Disneyland in California and Tokyo Disneyland in Japan mean Tony Stark won't be replacing Darth Vader anytime soon.

Free rides to and from the airport are hard enough to come by, let alone free rides on demand. Taxi Magic is changing that for customers who use its mobile app to hail a cab in the Los Angeles area this week. Here's how it works: Download the Taxi Magic app (if you haven't already) or sign in to your existing account. Enter the promotion code "TAXIBACK," and you'll receive a $15 credit for your next cab ride. (For those who haven't used it, you pay for fares using the app too.)

One of the benefits of the Affordable Care Act that President Obama often touts is the limit it places on medical bills: no more than $6,350 annually per insured individual or $12,700 per family. The insurance industry's idea of an "out-of-pocket maximum," however, doesn't deliver on the promise implicit in its name, as I learned when my insurer told me I might owe half of a $54,000 ambulance bill. My coverage from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois is exempt from the new limits because it predates the ACA, but it still has annual spending caps.

What did they do with baby George? The official trip that brought Prince William and wife Catherine to New Zealand this month took a turn for the adventurous Sunday when the couple hopped on a jet-boat journey down the Shotover River. The jet boat ride in Queenstown on the South Island is known for dodging jagged rocks and zipping through narrow canyons during a white-water rush that lasts less than half an hour. The boat travels more than 50 mph on the fast-flowing river. The New Zealand Herald reports that the boat carrying the royal couple shot up the river, made a 180-degree turn for the cameras, and then disappeared into the canyon.

Credit Judi Dench's lead performance as Philomena Lee, a proud woman who's spent decades dealing with the sense of shame she felt as a young unwed mother.
