Baylor puts much emphasis on the fact it has a 3-0 record with three freshman starters and seven freshman backups. However, USC is playing two freshman starters and eight freshman backups. . . . Baylor defensive coordinator Bob Cope was USC's secondary coach in 1991 and '92, and Baylor strength and conditioning Coach Robb Rogers held the same position at USC from 1989-92.

Quin Rodriguez had no intention of playing football in high school. A little on the smallish side, he preferred soccer, which he had played for several years, and baseball. But his best friend, Eric Valliere, didn't want to walk home alone after practice, so he persuaded Rodriguez to try out. Still, "I didn't care for football too much," Rodriguez said.
