Producer David Selznick takes David Lean, director of "Lawrence," for a walk down 5th Avenue, puts his arm around him, and warns, "David, before you know it they're going to want to cut this picture. They wanted to do the same with 'Gone With the Wind' and I resisted it. You've got to resist it, because it's a wonderful picture.
