His legs shackled and his wrists in handcuffs, Robert Daniels craned his neck past the armed Maricopa County sheriff's deputy and gazed at a sliver of daylight spilling through the hospital doors. "That's the first time I've seen sunlight in ... " Daniels' voice trailed off. He couldn't remember the last time. The 27-year-old has been confined to a sealed room in the Maricopa County Medical Center's jail ward since August.

Robert Daniel Clifford, a retired aircraft engineer who worked on the Stealth bomber, has died at the age of 71. Clifford, who was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Oak Park, Ill., died Thursday of lung cancer. Although he spent most of his life flying or working on planes, he once told his wife, Barbara, that his favorite job was shoveling coal into the engines of steam-powered locomotives.

Ballet news: Bolshoi Ballet director Alexei Ratmansky has declined New York City Ballet's invitation to become its resident choreographer because of a busy schedule of previous commitments, company spokesman Robert Daniels confirmed Wednesday -- More Police: The Police will bring their reunion tour back to the United States for about 30 more concerts in May and July, Billboard.com reported Wednesday.

The war against drugs declared by Mayor John Daniels when he took office five weeks ago hit home with the arrest of his younger brother on drug-dealing charges. Robert Daniels, 48, surrendered to another brother, Police Detective Melvin Daniels, on a warrant charging him with selling cocaine and operating a drug factory in the city.

Los Angeles police were seeking a motive in the strangulation death of a woman whose body was discovered in her North Hollywood duplex, police said. Judy Marmon, 36, was found dead in her home in the 12700 block of Chandler Boulevard by her roommate, Robert Daniels, 38, who reported the death to police, LAPD Detective Howard Landgren said. There are no suspects, police said.

Re "Les Mormons Attack Prejudice With Humor," by Jan Breslauer, June 5: Aren't we lucky to be able to bask in the enlightened glow of Robert Daniels and Curtis York. Let me make sure I understand this: These two--not in "drag" but rather "cross-dressing"--take us to new heights of understanding by vilifying and pigeonholing a state (Utah) and a people whose only crime is leading principled lives. I wonder if Daniels and York's attribution of the sources of their troubles and their motives aren't as confused as their wardrobes.

A 38-year-old North Hollywood man was being held Monday at the North Hollywood police station on suspicion of murder in the strangulation of his female roommate, Los Angeles police said. Robert Daniels was arrested Saturday after police questioned him about the death of Judy Marmon. The woman, in her 30s, was found dead early Saturday in their duplex apartment in the 12700 block of Chandler Boulevard. Police said she was strangled with a rope. Police would not say who discovered the body.
