Hugh D. Taylor, 46, previously assistant corporate controller, was named vice president and general manager of Virco's Conway division in Conway, Ark. He succeeds Robert Gann, who resigned several months ago. Raymond W. Virtue, 47, has been named to a newly created corporate vice presidency at Virco, a Los Angeles furniture manufacturer. Virtue previously was president of Virco's Delkay Plastics Corp.

A man who believed his daughter's fiance had beaten the woman's child walked into the hospital where the child was being treated and fatally shot the fiance, police said Friday. Charles Edward Jones, 48, of Nashville, was being held in Metro Nashville Jail after his arrest at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was charged with murder in the Thursday night shooting of Robert Gann, 23, of Hendersonville, said Police Sgt. Luther Summers.

CBS, seeking to turn around its troubled Los Angeles station, on Friday named veteran station executive Bill Applegate to be vice president and general manager of KCBS-TV(Channel 2). Applegate's appointment comes just two weeks after KCBS finished a distant third among the three network-owned and -operated television stations in Los Angeles during the crucial May sweeps ratings period. Applegate is the station's third general manager in as many years.
