The semifinals in the Children's Hospital of Orange County tennis tournament are scheduled today at the John Wayne Tennis Club in Newport Beach. Trevor Kronemann and Richard Lubner, UC Irvine's No. 1 doubles team, meet Eliot Teltscher and Dick Miller in one semifinal at 10 a.m. Jon Leach, a junior at Laguna Beach High School, and Chris Dunk play top-seeded Tim Pawsat and Robert Vant Hof at 2 p.m. The winners play in the final at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Robert Van't Hof defeated Eliott Teltscher in singles, 6-2, then teamed with Larry Stefanki to win the men's doubles and with Mary Lou Piatek to take the mixed doubles as Sacramento scored a 27-24 victory over the Los Angeles Strings Friday night before 1,012 fans at the Forum. The Strings (4-9) and out of playoff contention, will wind up their season tonight at Sacramento.

The semifinals of the 26th annual Adoption Guild doubles tennis tournament will be held today at the Newport Beach Tennis Club. In the men's championship (6.5) flight, Chris Dunk and Tim Pawsat will play Mike Fedderly and Bernie Mitton, and Mark Kaplan and Trevor Kronemann will meet Robert Van't Hof and Larry Stefanki. Van't Hof and Dunk won the tournament last year. There also will be women's doubles and mixed doubles competition in various flights, according to ability.

The Sacramento Capitals, in last place in the TeamTennis West Division, beat the second-place Strings for the second time this season, 27-21, Tuesday night at Sacramento. Sacramento's Teri Whitlinger defeated Robin White in women's singles, 6-1, and teamed with her sister, Tami, in women's doubles to defeat White and Mary Lou Daniels, 6-3. Jimmy Connors of the Strings defeated Kelly Jones, 6-5. In mixed doubles, John Lloyd and White beat Robert Van't Hof and Tami Whitlinger, 6-4.

Unseeded Americans Robert Van't Hof, Richey Reneberg and Joey Rive scored first-round victories today in the South African Open tennis tournament. Van't Hof was leading fourth-seeded Paolo Cane, 6-3, 2-0, when the Italian retired from the match. Reneberg beat South African Pieter Aldrich, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, and Rive defeated West German Alexander Mronz, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The International Olympic Committee confirmed Monday that any players competing in the event would be barred from the 1992 Games.

The Los Angeles Strings, led by Anne White, won their first TeamTennis match of the season Friday night, defeating the Sacramento Capitals in overtime, 24-21, before 906 at the Forum. White, who had a combined score of 17-9 for the night, defeated Pam Casale in women's singles, 6-1, and teamed with Lisa Bonder to beat Casale and Mary Lou Piatek, 6-2, in women's doubles. In mixed doubles, Piatek and Robert Van't Hof downed White and John Lloyd, 6-4, sending the match into overtime.

David and Eric Sherbeck, of Yorba Linda, won the professional men's doubles title Sunday of a $10,000 Pro-Am tournament at the Laguna Niguel Racquet Club, defeating Chris Baar and Tom Rettenmaier, of the San Fernando Valley, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. In the women's professional doubles, Linda Mallory, of Newport Beach, and Barbara Lemberg, of San Clemente, beat Janice Metcalf, of Claremont, and Sherife Hagey, of San Diego, 6-3, 6-2.

Bruce Man Son Hing and Darren Yates of UC Irvine won their match Monday in the 25th annual Adoption Guild Doubles Tennis Tournament to advance to the semifinal round Saturday at the Newport Beach Tennis Club. The Irvine team beat Tom City of Industry and Dan Hansen of Laguna Niguel, 6-4, 6-2, to advance in the men's championship division. Finals will be held Sunday. The tournament is played to benefit the Holy Family Services of Orange County.
