Robert Webber, the virile looking, veteran actor who was seen in dozens of movies and hundreds of TV shows, has died at his Malibu home, his wife said Friday. Del Webber said her husband died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, known as Lou Gehrig's disease, Wednesday after being diagnosed with the fatal illness seven months ago. He was 64. Webber was the quintessential Hollywood character actor--a face familiar to thousands and a name known to few. Husky and gray-haired in recent years, he was considered one of the town's most versatile performers, whose roles ranged from the classic "12 Angry Men" to the frivolous "10."

Corona Centennial has battled back to tie St. John Bosco, 21-21, at halftime of the Open Division regional bowl game at Cerritos College. Robert Webber hit Barry Ware with a five-yard touchdown pass with six seconds left in the second quarter on fourth-and-goal, then made a two-point conversion pass. Webber has been burning the Braves' secondary, escaping the pass rush and connecting with Ware, who also has a 46-yard TD reception. Webber earlier passed five yards for a touchdown to Greyson Bankhead.

Robert Webber remembers attending his first Corona Centennial High football game in the sixth grade. He saw quarterback Matt Scott (Arizona) running and passing the ball. Then he watched Taylor Martinez (Nebraska) and Michael Eubank (Arizona State). "I always wanted to be one of those quarterbacks," he said. Not only has Webber taken over as the No. 1 gunslinger in Centennial's no-huddle, always unpredictable offense, he has set the school season passing record with 3,344 yards and 34 touchdowns.

Let's hear it for the Inland Division poll voters who have Corona Centennial (6-2) ranked No. 3 behind No. 1 Vista Murrieta and No. 2 Rancho Cucamonga. I think they're showing a lack of respect for the Huskies. Since losses to Long Beach Poly and Alemany of the Pac-5 Division, the Huskies have scored 55, 43, 70 and 55 points. Their defense is getting better. Robert Webber has passed for 2,078 yards and 15 touchdowns. Tre Watson has rushed for 1,959 yards and 30 touchdowns.

After a tough loss to Long Beach Poly last week, Corona Centennial will try to get back on the winning track tonight, but it will be a difficult task against an Alemany squad that is full of confidence after its convincing victory over reigning City Section champion Narbonne. Centennial (2-1) is ranked #7 in the Southland by The Times and is still #1 in the Southern Section's Inland Division, led by quarterback Robert Webber and running back Tre Watson, who rushed for almost 500 yards and seven touchdowns two weeks ago against St. Bonaventure.

Sophomore running back Sean Mcgrew of Bellflower St. John Bosco played the role of an unstoppable 100-meter track runner on Saturday night at Cerritos College the way he kept taking handoffs and scoring touchdowns untouched. By night's end, he had scored seven touchdowns, rushed for 367 yards in 17 carries and helped the Braves turn a tie game at halftime into a 70-49 victory in the CIF state regional Open Division bowl game. St. John Bosco (15-0) put together a four-touchdown barrage in the third quarter after a 21-21 halftime deadlock.

Corona Centennial High's lightning-fast offense didn't strike with the same power as its record-setting week before, but it was good enough to give the team the CIF Inland Division championship. Led by Cal-bound running back Tre Watson, the Huskies defeated Vista Murrieta, 26-12, in the title game Friday night at Centennial High. Receiver Greyson Bankhead caught an 86-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Robert Webber with 8 minutes 7 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to provide some separation.

Corona Centennial and Long Beach Poly are tied 7-7 early in the second quarter at Mission Viejo High. Josh Love's one-yard quarterback sneak tied the game on the first play of the second quarter after James Brooks set up the Poly score with a 72-yard run to the Centennial 3-yard line. Robert Webber threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Eric Locklin to give Centennial a 7-0 lead on its first possession.  Perhaps the biggest suprise so far is that Centennial running back Tre Watson has zero yards in five carries.

It was a night to remember for Corona Centennial running back Tre Watson, who obliterated the school rushing record with a 466-yard performance in 37 carries and scored seven touchdowns on Saturday night in a 69-55 victory over Ventura St. Bonaventure in the Honor Bowl at Oceanside High. Centennial (2-0) gained 886 yards in total offense and at one point scored on eight consecutive offensive possessions. The old rushing record was 415 yards. "He was incredible," Coach Matt Logan said.
