Robin Gibb, a singer and songwriter who joined two of his brothers in forming the Bee Gees pop group that helped define the sound of the disco era with the best-selling 1977 soundtrack to"Saturday Night Fever," has died. He was 62. Gibb died Sunday after battling cancer and while recuperating from intestinal surgery, family spokesman Doug Wright announced. This spring Gibb had been hospitalized in London with advanced colorectal cancer. Sometimes bigger is better when buying art by committee. At this year's Collectors Committee weekend, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art bought $2.5 million worth of artwork to add to its permanent collection, including two larger-than-life works: a 60-foot-long Robert Rauschenberg screenprint that shows a collage of newspaper articles from 1970, bought for $775,000; and a nearly 10-foot-tall elevator surround that Louis Sullivan designed around...

Pop singer Andy Gibb died naturally of a heart condition, a coroner's office said today after Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb angrily denied reports that his brother's death was related to drug abuse despite a past history of cocaine addiction. Constable Michael Harvey of the Oxford coroner's office said that since an autopsy showed that the cause of death was natural, no inquest will be conducted. Gibb, 30, died Thursday in an Oxford hospital after complaining of stomach pains.

Justin Timberlake said adieu to his single life on Thursday in Las Vegas, as the actor-singer was spotted with a crew of friends celebrating what appeared to be his bachelor party. Kicking off at the Wynn's Sinatra Restaurant, JT and a group of about 25 guys decked out in Rat Pack-esque suits for a meal, according to a Ministry source - more than appropriate as the joint is described as a culinary tribute to Ol' Blue Eyes. Heading to the hotel's Surrender nightclub just before midnight, Timberlake and company climbed out of their formal wear and into bathing suits, splashing in a private infinity pool within a reserved cabana.  Timberlake sipped on 901 tequila, his own brand, while his party opted for vodka and Red Bull.

American author Madeline Miller was awarded the Orange Prize for fiction at a ceremony in London on Wednesday. It was for Miller's first book, the novel "The Song of Achilles," and marked the occasion of the last Orange Prize, worth about $47,000. It was announced last week that telecom company Orange would cease sponsoring the 17-year-old prize, which is awarded to a female author for a work of fiction written in English. Newcomer Miller was the dark horse in this year's race.

Matt Groening has been keeping a secret for more than 20 years, but he's finally broken his silence: He's revealed in which state Springfield, the setting for "The Simpsons," is located. The answer? Oregon. Not a total shock, considering that Groening grew up in Portland, Ore. Still, the cartoonist has been awfully cagey about the location over the years, and the show has delighted in perpetuating the mystery. But in an interview in the May issue of Smithsonian magazine, which went online Tuesday, Groening has finally come clean.
