A woman accused of killing her 3-month-old daughter, who was afflicted with Down's syndrome, pleaded not guilty Thursday, as did the infant's father, who has been charged with felony child endangerment and as an accessory to the May 19 slaying. Rocio Huerta Cazares, 23, and her common-law husband, Oscar Aguilar Lezama, also 23, entered their pleas during an arraignment in Orange County Municipal Court.

The mother of a 3-month old girl with Down's syndrome, charged Thursday with fracturing the baby's skull and dumping the body, might have been depressed about the girl's illness and about the family's financial trouble, the prosecutor said. Rocio Huerta Cazares, 23, appeared in Orange County Municipal Court in Santa Ana, where the murder charge was filed Thursday.

Here are some recent court cases: * Oscar Aguilar Lezama and Rocio Huerta Cazares pleaded guilty to killing their 3-month-old Down's syndrome daughter after initially claiming that the infant had been kidnaped at knifepoint. Lezama was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Cazares received five years probation for being an accessory after the fact.

A man was sentenced to prison and his common-law wife received probation Friday for their roles in the death of their Down's syndrome daughter. Oscar Aguilar Lezama, 24, of Orange, who pleaded guilty April 6 to voluntary manslaughter, was sentenced to 11 years in prison by Superior Court Judge David O. Carter. Lezama's common-law wife, Rocio Huerta Cazares, 24, who also pleaded guilty, was sentenced to five years of probation for being an accessory to a felony after the fact.
