The Toronto Blue Jays took advantage of Josh Beckett's being scratched from his scheduled start by scoring seven runs off substitute Michael Bowden to beat Boston, 11-5, Monday night in a game called in the seventh inning because of rain. It was the fourth straight loss for the Red Sox, who could have clinched the AL wild card with a victory. Their magic number was reduced to one over Texas, which lost to the Angels. Jose Bautista, Aaron Hill and Rod Barajas homered for the Blue Jays, who had lost six straight to the Red Sox and eight in a row at Fenway Park.

Junior Spivey went three for five with his first home run of the season and the Arizona Diamondbacks won three games in a row for the first time this season by beating the Florida Marlins, 7-1, Monday night at Phoenix. Spivey, batting .182 with three runs batted in going into the game, drove in two with a first-inning homer off Justin Wayne (0-1) and scored twice. "In the past I've been out there definitely pressing," Spivey said. "It felt good to hit the ball hard."

Aaron Hill's run-scoring single in the 11th inning Saturday gave Toronto a 5-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, improving the surprising Blue Jays' American League-best record to 17-9. Rod Barajas led off the 11th with a single against Brian Bass (0-1). After Travis Snider popped his bunt attempt to the mound, Barajas took second on Marco Scutaro's sacrifice and scored on Hill's single to right-center.

Dodgers 5, Angels 0 At the plate: With the exception of using a designated hitter, the Dodgers fielded what they expect to be their everyday lineup. Rod Barajas hit a solo home run, Rafael Furcal had two hits, Casey Blake had a double and Matt Kemp hit a two-run single. On the mound: John Ely struck out three over two scoreless innings to begin his longshot campaign to make the team. Jon Link also pitched two scoreless innings. Mike MacDougal, Blake Hawksworth, Kenley Jansen, Ramon Troncoso and Juan Rincon all pitched one scoreless inning.

On the day his team learned staff ace Roy Halladay was headed for the disabled list, Scott Richmond struck out a career-high 11 in eight innings and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-1, on Wednesday night. Richmond (5-3) gave up five hits and retired his last 13 batters. The 29-year-old rookie was 0-3 with a 5.81 ERA in his previous five starts. Jayson Werth homered for the NL East-leading Phillies, who fell to 13-18 at home.

The Lancaster JetHawks got three home runs from Joe Mathis and James Clifford, but it was a bases empty shot by Rod Barajas that gave the High Desert Mavericks a 6-5 come-from-behind win Monday in a California League game in Adelanto. Mathis homered to leadoff the game. It was his third home run of the series and second he started the game with a round tripper, giving the JetHawks (12-6) a 1-0 lead. They added a second run in the inning when Josh Watts singled home Jason Regan, who doubled.

TORONTO -- When it comes to Roy Halladay, Derek Jeter has seen enough. The New York Yankees shortstop considers his American League East rival to be the game's best starter. Halladay threw a two-hitter and Matt Stairs and Rod Barajas homered to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to a 5-0 victory over the Yankees on Friday night. "He never throws a ball over the middle of the plate," Jeter said of Halladay. "If you face him four or five times a game, you might get one pitch over the plate.

The Dodgers fielded a lineup that included their eight projected starting position players, but of them, only Rod Barajas got a hit. ON THE MOUND: In his spring debut, Chad Billingsley held the Indians to three hits over three scoreless innings. He struck out three and walked none. Non-roster pitchers Wilkin De La Rosa, Jon Huber, Roman Colon and Oscar Villarreal combined to walk eight batters in five innings.
