How cool is Rodman? Just ask Clint Filichia and John Tamkin, co-owners of the "Daddy 66" clothing line, who were struggling designers until the Chicago Bulls' eccentric forward wore one of their T-shirts. The Chicago-based company sold apparel out of the trunks of their cars, and with minimal success, until Rodman wore a sleeveless T-shirt with the company's "Daddy 66," logo on MTV's "House of Style." Since then, the company's owners say that their entire stock has sold out.

When Al Campanis got suckered into making his "racist" comments on "Nightline," the black community called for his head on a platter. What is the sports world going to do about Rodman's and Thomas' racist attacks on Larry Bird? Is racism racism only when it is directed at blacks? I don't think so. As an American Jew (who gets it for being white as well as Jewish, not to forget left-handed), I am outraged and disgusted by the hypocrisy demonstrated here. Rodman and Thomas should both spend the rest of their sports careers playing golf with Al Campanis.

So the San Antonio Spurs sent coach Bob Hill to Boot Hill. Do you think former Spur Dennis Rodman, who clashed regularly with Hill, was glad or something? Not actually. Rodman would rather have his hair dyed black, than say something nice about Gregg Popovich, Hill's replacement. Rodman wrote in his autobiography: "Gregg Popovich was the big problem in San Antonio. We didn't get along from the beginning. He's Mr. Discipline, Mr. Straight, Mr. Conservative.

Jim Murray's fabulous column on Loy Vaught [Dec. 20] was refreshing. Chris Baker's "fabulous" description of Chris Webber and Juwan Howard, who not only returned to school to graduate but who also had the audacity to take the blame when he made a mistake off the court, was also interesting. Then I remembered how well Elvis Grbac handled the situation when he was attacked by Willie Brown. What common heritage do these gentlemen share that sets the standards that Rodman, Barkley et al. seem to be lacking?

Why is it legal for Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra, two heterosexual and alleged "adults," to marry and separate in one day, then file for an annulment days later (Nov. 24)? Rodman and Electra's ridiculous "marriage" did more to mock the institution than any committed, same-sex marriage could ever do. ELLEN GADDIE San Clemente
