Responding to criticism that it has failed to independently investigate or publicly address allegations that led to a probe of its athletic program, USC posted video statements Thursday evening from two top administrators. Todd Dickey, USC's senior vice president for administration, and Athletic Director Mike Garrett appear in the videos, which were posted on the school's athletic website.

Former USC men's basketball coach Tim Floyd once described the distant treatment he received from Trojans Athletic Director Mike Garrett as "a bitter pill." Floyd's bitterness about the events that led to his resignation last June could be in evidence Thursday when the school goes before the NCAA's infractions committee at a hearing in Tempe, Ariz. USC officials will defend their athletic department against college rules violations. Floyd's attorney said he would appear at the hearing.

If it's fun, then O.J. Mayo might not be one and done. The most coveted recruit in USC basketball history said Friday afternoon that if the Trojans fall short of a national title in his freshman season but show promise for the following year, he might not necessarily bolt for the NBA.

O.J. Mayo's an impact player, all right. He's still a year away from playing a game for USC, yet he managed to overshadow national finalist UCLA's season opener Wednesday and his future team's debut in its new arena tonight. All because he sent a fax. In it, he stated his intent to play basketball at USC. And that became the lead college basketball story in town. It took nearly four years to investigate. The hearing to go through the allegations and hear testimony lasted three long days. Now, the real waiting -- and the anxiety -- begins. It could be anywhere from six to 10 weeks before USC is informed of the outcome of its hearing before the NCAA Committee on Infractions, which concluded Saturday. Still, USC representatives were happy to be leaving the desert and the hotel ballroom that served as their courtroom. "Glad it's over," USC Athletic Director Mike Garrett said as he walked toward an elevator.

Less than a month after he was accused of delivering an envelope of cash to the handler of a star player, USC basketball Coach Tim Floyd resigned Tuesday, abruptly ending a four-year tenure that saw him take a once-lackluster program to the cusp of national prominence. Floyd, 55, only two months ago had USC basketball at its pinnacle.

A day after former USC basketball coach Tim Floyd had his say -- when he denied allegations of breaking NCAA rules and complained that Trojans Athletic Director Mike Garrett abandoned him -- USC and the NCAA declined to have theirs. A request to interview Garrett on Wednesday brought this response from USC spokesman Tim Tessalone: "Because there is an ongoing NCAA investigation, we cannot comment." In an interview with Times reporter Diane Pucin late Tuesday night, Floyd said that during his last six weeks as coach of the Trojans, Garrett communicated with him only through letters delivered by courier to his home or office.

April 2006 Pacific 10 Conference begins investigation after several media outlets report that tailback Reggie Bush's mother, stepfather and brother had been living in a San Diego-area home owned by Michael Michaels, a would-be sports marketer. Bush says the situation was "blown out of proportion." He tells ESPN, "When this is all said and done everyone will see at the end of the day that we've done absolutely nothing wrong." Soon after, the New Orleans Saints make Bush the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft.
