PARIS -- Seeing Junya Watanabe's spring-summer 2013 collection during Paris Fashion Week on Saturday, I was reminded of watching the London Summer Olympics, and how obsessed I became with the athletes' high-impact performance wear and neon running shoes. Watanabe must have been watching, too. He teamed up with Puma, tapping the athletic wear giant for fabrics for this collection. Nylon and polyester mesh treated as if they were fine silk and satin, with great attention to tailoring and design details.

AFTER just a few years, the fast fashion phenomenon has come down to a pretty predictable formula: Mass-market retailer hires cool designer, hypes the collaboration like mad but produces just a few pieces, and waits for the stampede. Proenza Schouler at Target. Viktor & Rolf at H&M. Roland Mouret at the Gap. All of those limited collections sold out in days, if not hours. Now comes Jovovich-Hawk for MNG, making a comparatively stealth debut today in a store you probably haven't even heard of.

In this case it's the struggling San Francisco-based Gap chain that has tapped into the relatively new talent pool as part of a new Gap Design Editions (GDE) collection hitting stores April 17.

Watch out Kate. Looks like you've got some competition for most stylish mom-to-be. Kanye West's boo, Kim Kardashian, may wield more power than the duchess in the fashion world. Designer Roland Mouret was quoted in the February issue of Vogue saying: "You don't see hundreds of women running around looking like her [Kate]. To be honest, we're more likely to get orders on a dress that Kim Kardashian's worn. " [ Telegraph ] Vittorio Missoni of the famed Missoni fashion house is missing.
