Reliever Ronald Belisario, on his best behavior with the Dodgers last season, has not fared as well back home in Venezuela this off-season. His Winter League team in Margarita said Belisario would not play for the rest of the season because of disciplinary reasons. Like most developments involving the hard-throwing right-hander, explanations did not appear simple and clear. On Tuesday, the Ultimas Noticias newspaper said Belisario had asked for and been granted permission to leave the team for personal reasons, but when he did not return as scheduled, was removed from the roster.

Brian Wilson might want to pitch for the Dodgers, but it appears the interest isn't mutual. The colorful and magnificently bearded closer wasn't tendered a contract for next season by the San Francisco Giants, making him a free agent. Wilson lives in Los Angeles in the off-season, and the Dodgers are among the teams with which he would like to sign, according to multiple reports. Though the Dodgers won't publicly comment on free agents, people familiar with team officials' thinking say they aren't looking to sign Wilson.

The Dodgers met with Zack Greinke this week, according to a person familiar with the situation who wasn't authorized to comment on the matter. Greinke is the top starting pitcher on the free-agent market and is expected to sign a nine-figure contract, something the Dodgers have the wherewithal to offer him. The Dodgers are also interested in Anibal Sanchez. If the Dodgers fail to sign Greinke or Sanchez, they could turn their attention to the likes of Kyle Lohse or Ryan Dempster.

RONALD BELISARIO , turns 30 on Dec. 31, reliever Final 2012 stats: 8-1, 2.54 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 8.7 strikeouts per nine innings, .187 opponents batting average. Contract status: Under team control. The good: Had the finest of his three major-league seasons by most statistical analysis. Looked a lot like the guy who unexpectedly exploded upon the scene in 2009. Stuff can truly be nasty. After serving an initial 25-game suspension for testing positive for cocaine -- and being unable to get a visa to play at all in 2011 --- returned to fairly dominate.

The San Francisco Giants have won two of the last three World Series championships, but pitcher Brandon League said Wednesday the Dodgers would be "the team to beat next year. " "The Giants had a great year," League said. "They won the games they needed to win. But I think in 2013, the Los Angeles Dodgers are going to be the team everyone wants to beat or tries to beat. " The 29-year-old closer spoke to reporters on a conference call after he signed a $22.5-million, three-year deal with the Dodgers.

The Dodgers re-signed free agent Brandon League on Tuesday with the intention of making him their closer. League's salary will reflect his role, as the Dodgers are committed to paying him $22.5 million over the next three seasons. The contract also includes an option for a fourth season at $7.5 million that will become guaranteed if League finishes 55 games in 2015. "We think that after what he did the last two or three weeks, that closing is the role," General Manager Ned Colletti said.

Reliever Brandon League has finalized a new three-year deal with the Dodgers, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Times. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal isn't expected to be announced until Wednesday. Financial terms of the contract were not immediately known. The Dodgers bullpen posted an earned-run average of 3.23 this season, fourth-best in the National League and eighth-best in the major leagues.

Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis offered his analysis of the San Francisco Giants and Detroit Tigers throughout the World Series. Always known for his defense, Ellis batted .270 and led the Dodgers in walks this season, his first full year as a starter. With the series winding down, so does the baseball season. These last few days have been a chance for me to reflect on our season before the focus truly transitions to preparing for 2013. Watching the outstanding pitchers and pitching performances throughout this series has brought back floods of memories of games and individual outings I caught this year.
