If it were up to Rosamund Pike, she might not be sipping hot chocolate in a roomy booth with a reporter at Hugo's in West Hollywood on a windy mid-November day. It's nothing personal; the one-time Bond girl is more than amenable, quick to answer every question with candor and often insight and depth. It's just that the 31-year-old British actress, who's also a cellist and an accomplished presence on the London stage, sometimes prefers to write her own articles about herself rather than be interviewed.

The exclusive trailer available here , which is set to a Richard Butler cover of Charles Aznavour's "She," opens with Nick Dunne (Affleck) speaking to a crowd at a candlelight vigil about his missing wife, played by Rosamund Pike. Meme culture strikes again. In a confluence of two topics hot (with ironic italics) on the Internet right now, model Emily Ratajkowski, most recently seen undressed and dancing in Robin Thicke's controversial "Blurred Lines" music video, has been cast in a role in the anticipated adaptation of the novel "Gone Girl. " Director David Fincher is bringing together an increasingly odd collection of talent for his telling of the tale by Gillian Flynn, who is adapting her own novel for the screen.

The dark and twisty hit novel "Gone Girl" is taken to task by the best practitioner of dark literary arts, Mary Gaitskill, in this fall's Bookforum -- puzzlingly, about 15 months after the book's publication. Writer Mary Gaitskill is among the best practitioners of the arts of writing about women, sexuality, and the darkness that lies within the human heart, something perfected in her work, which includes "Bad Behavior" "Two Girls, Fat and Thin," and  "Don't Cry. " Gillian Flynn's "Gone Girl" was published in June of 2012, and fantastic word of mouth helped it become a huge bestseller.

Invariably funny and inexpressibly moving in the way it looks at a young girl's journey from innocence to experience, "An Education" does so many things so well, it's difficult to know where to begin when cataloging its virtues. What's easy is knowing where you'll end up, which is marveling, like everyone else, at the performance by Carey Mulligan that is the film's irreplaceable centerpiece. With just a few film roles behind her, including flighty Kitty Bennett in the Keira Knightley-starring "Pride & Prejudice," Mulligan seizes the character of 16-year-old Jenny in a once-in-a-lifetime way. The notion of the single performance that creates a star overnight is surely one of Hollywood's biggest cliches, but this is one time when you can take it to the bank.

"I have nothing to lose," Tom Cruise says. He's not talking about his pending divorce from Katie Holmes, his wife of more than five years. Instead, the "Mission: Impossible" star utters that phrase - along with "I am not a hero" - in the trailer released Tuesday for "Jack Reacher," Cruise's next film. The Paramount Pictures action movie, due in theaters Dec. 21, is adapted from Lee Child's novel "One Shot" and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of"The Usual Suspects.

YOU may well have seen Walt Disney Concert Hall as a background for car commercials and fashion photographs as well as for the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Directed by Gregory Hoblit, "Fracture" casts Hopkins as a man who tries to shoot his wife and, in a cat-and-mouse game with an assistant D.A. Even princes can be less than tactful. Prince William and the former Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, arrived in Sydney, Australia, on Wednesday, Day 10 of their tour to New Zealand and Australia.  Kate wore a yellow dress with white modular details designed by Roksanda Ilincic to attend a reception. The duchess said her husband opined that the dress made her look like a banana.
