Rosanne Cash is recovering at her Manhattan home following brain surgery last month for a rare but benign condition. The 52-year-old singer is expected to make a full recovery and will resume recording her debut album for Manhattan Records early next year, the EMI Group-owned label said Wednesday in a statement. Cash, the daughter of Johnny Cash, decided to have the surgery after being diagnosed with chiari I malformation, her manager said last month.

Consequently, this uncommonly dark and intimate album appears to be taking a dive of another sort: in a marked departure from Cash's strong past commercial performances, "Interiors" has fared poorly on the country charts.

At last, someone in the progressive community -- MoveOn.org -- has the guts to take on the Bush administration and the bemedalled general they're hiding behind in their latest pathetic attempt to sell the war in Iraq ["MoveOn Ad Shakes Some Up," by Tina Daunt, Sept. 21]. And what do the Hollywood "liberals" do? Wimp out! There's nothing unpatriotic about criticizing a general in the middle of a war.

Danny Glover hosts "Scared Straight! 20 Years Later," tonight at 8 on UPN. The original, award-winning documentary chronicled hardened convicts confronting young offenders. The sequel features the same people reflecting on that experience. (Story on Page 50.) John Stossel hosts the ABC special "Sex, Drugs and Consenting Adults," tonight at 10.
