Authorities are continuing to investigate a shooting involving a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy and four men in Pico Rivera, they said Monday. Two deputies were patrolling southbound on Rosemead Boulevard near Shenandoah Street about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when they approached a man they saw spray-painting a wall, sheriff's department officials said. When the man saw the deputies, he got into a car with three other people and drove toward one of the deputies, who then shot at the approaching vehicle, officials said.

A motorcyclist was killed early Saturday morning in a crash on an eastbound 210 Freeway ramp in East Pasadena, according to the California Highway Patrol. The motorcyclist was exiting the 210 Freeway at Rosemead Boulevard when he hit the guardrail and flipped over onto the adjacent on-ramp, CHP Officer Ed Jacobs said. The crash was reported around 3:40 a.m, he said. The victim, a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead on scene at 3:53 a.m., Jacobs said. He was not identified.

After being stung by heavy neighborhood opposition to opening a parole office on Rosemead Boulevard, the state Department of Corrections has begun investigating two nearby sites in east Pasadena. The new sites are located about one mile west of Rosemead Boulevard at 2650 Foothill Blvd. and 96 N. Sunnyslope Ave. The department is also considering a site at 123 Lake Ave. and one on the 2500 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue. The city Board of Directors is scheduled to discuss the sites at its meeting Tuesday.

Who is responsible for filling a big hole in the street at the (northwest) corner of Duarte Road and Rosemead Boulevard? I've called and called for months. First, the San Gabriel Street Department. Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were investigating the deaths of two men who were struck and killed by a freight train in Rosemead early Saturday. The Sheriff's Department's Temple Station received a report of a person struck by a train around 12:32 a.m. in the 8800 block of Grand Avenue, not far from Rosemead Boulevard, said Lt. Kerry Carter. The bodies of the men were found near the Union Pacific railroad tracks. The men were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Sheriff's deputies in Temple City were searching Monday for the killer of a man who was stabbed to death at an apartment complex on Rosemead Boulevard. The unidentified victim suffered multiple stab wounds in the upper body late Sunday after an argument with several other men, said Deputy Angie Prewitt. After being stabbed, the victim staggered out of the apartment and collapsed in front of a building in the 5000 block Rosemead Boulevard, she said.

On- and off-ramps to the eastbound San Bernardino Freeway at Rosemead Boulevard will be closed from Monday through Aug. 8 for major ramp reconstruction. The state Department of Transportation will do the work as part of a $1.6-million project to upgrade ramps along both sides of the freeway from Fremont Avenue to Rosemead Boulevard. The project began in April and is expected to be completed in December. Each ramp along the route will be closed for 10 days during construction.

Temple City will use nearly all of its $213,464 federal Community Development Block Grant allocation this year for commercial redevelopment. More than $206,000 has been slated for use in the Rosemead Boulevard Redevelopment Project area, Planning Director Jeff Shaw said. The money is earmarked for property acquisitions on the west side of Rosemead Boulevard north of Las Tunas Drive, where a shopping center is planned, Shaw said. The purchases should begin late this year.
