Russell Wilson is a Super Bowl champion. He's the face of the Seattle Seahawks. He's a superstar who has endorsement deals with Nike, EA Sports and Levi's, to name a few. And he is now the third-highest paid quarterback on the Seahawks' roster. On Monday, Seattle traded for former Oakland Raiders starter Terrelle Pryor, who is set to make $705,000 next season. He will compete for the No. 2 quarterback spot with Tavaris Jackson, who will earn $1.25 million. Wilson is locked in next year for $662,434 -- and there's nothing anyone can do about it because rookie contracts cannot be renegotiated until after the player's third season.

Kent Bazemore cried a little bit. Nick Young planted his face in a towel for a long time. Sunday was rough on them, the latest two injured Lakers. In another sign of a bad season, the Lakers have more hurt players (eight) than healthy ones (seven). Bazemore crumpled to the court and rolled around after sustaining a sprained right foot in the second quarter against the Clippers. The weird part was how it happened: Bazemore was merely dribbling near the three-point line, trying to keep the ball away from Darren Collison , when he felt a pop. He was helped off the court and scheduled for an MRI exam Monday.

PHOENIX -- Jamey Wright was officially added to the 40-man roster on Tuesday, clearing the way for him to make the Dodgers' opening-day roster as a reliever. The Dodgers cleared a place for him on the 40-man roster by moving Blake Hawksworth to the 60-day disabled list. Wright, who came into camp on a minor-league contract, said the previous day that General Manager Ned Colletti told him he would make the opening-day roster. He will draw a base salary of $900,000. Wright can earn an additional $500,000 in incentives: $62,500 for 40 games pitched, $62,500 for 45 games pitched, $75,000 for 50 games pitched, $100,000 for 55 games pitched, $100,000 for 60 games pitched and $100,000 for 65 games pitched.

Defensive linemen Christian Heyward and DeVante Wilson and tight end Christian Thomas are no longer with USC's football program, an athletic department spokesman said Friday. Those players - and tight end Junior Pomee - were not listed on the roster the school released in advance of Tuesday's start of spring practice. The spokesman declined to comment on their situations. As a redshirt freshman last season, Heyward played in five games. He made three tackles and recovered a fumble.

Before the game Saturday, Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly spoke glowingly of the work veteran reliever Kevin Gregg had turned in this spring. “He's been great,” Mattingly said. “I know he can't be this good. But every time out, he just gets outs. “He couldn't have had a better camp really. We're just trying to figure a way to keep Kevin around.” Turns out they couldn't, at least for now. After the Dodgers' 2-1 loss to the Angels they announced most, but not all, of their moves to get the roster down to 25 for Monday's season opener.

SAN DIEGO -- The Dodgers added a shortstop to their 40-man roster Wednesday, claiming Carlos Triunfel off outright waivers from the Seattle Mariners. Truinfel, 24, was optioned to triple-A Albuquerque. Triunfel was originally signed by then-Mariners scout Bob Engle in 2006. Engle is now the Dodgers vice president of international scouting. Triunfel was rated the 30th-best prospect in all of baseball by MLB.com in 2009. He played his first eight major league games with the Mariners last year.

Collin Cowgill edged out J.B. Shuck for a reserve outfield spot, Ian Stewart beat out Grant Green for a backup infield job, and Matt Shoemaker was added to the bullpen as a long reliever, as the Angels made their final cuts and announced their 25-man opening-day roster Saturday night. The left-handed-hitting Shuck earned several American League rookie-of-the-year votes after hitting .293 with 128 hits in 129 games last season, and he had a solid spring, hitting .281 (16 for 57) with five triples in 21 games through Friday night.

For Chone Figgins, his reunion with the Angels in the Freeway Series will mark a triumph. Games against his former team used to a be painful reminder of what he left behind. Over the next three days, when the Dodgers and Angels face each other in their annual exhibition series, they will be a testament to his perseverance. Figgins is on the Dodgers' major league roster, a minor miracle considering how he has spent the last several years. He went into spring training on a minor league contract.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The last time the Houston Texans had the first pick in the NFL draft, in 2006, they threw a curveball. They passed on running back Reggie Bush, widely expected to be the first player selected, and took defensive end Mario Williams. Fast-forward eight years and the Texans, who once again own the top pick, are again a mystery. With six weeks to go before the draft, Houston is keeping its options wide open. "I don't think it'll come to me in a dream," first-year Texans Coach Bill O'Brien said Tuesday during a breakfast with reporters at the NFL's annual meetings.

The Dodgers announced their 25-man roster before opening the regular season against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Australia, and if it mostly came out as expected, it wasn't devoid of surprise. Alex Guerrero, the Cuban infielder who did not play last season and is making the conversion to second base, made the cut (for now), but last year's backup catcher, Tim Federowicz, did not. The Dodgers elected to keep catcher Drew Butera, who is out of options, and send Federowicz, who still has them, back to the minors.

Maybe Robert Sacre isn't so irrelevant after all. The rookie center out of Gonzaga might make the Lakers' roster after showing some muscle and ability in the exhibition season. Sacre was the 60th and last player taken in the NBA draft in June, a position known in the much longer NFL draft as "Mr. Irrelevant. " If Sacre is still on the roster for the Oct. 30 season opener against Dallas, it's not a sure thing he'll be on it the rest of the season. He has a non-guaranteed contract that pays him $474,000 and becomes guaranteed the rest of the season only if he is on the roster in early January.

The latest step(s) on the Olympic road to Sochi, Russia, came on Monday when various national hockey federations released their orientation camp rosters. There was significant Los Angeles-Anaheim representation, and a decided youth movement in terms of the makeup of Team USA. Of the 48 players invited to USA Hockey's camp at the end of August, only four were born before 1984 -- goalies Craig Anderson (Ottawa Senators) and Ryan Miller (Buffalo Sabres) and defensemen  Paul Martin  and Brooks Orpik (Pittsburgh Penguins)

Javy Guerra, who started the 2012 season as the Dodgers closer, was designated for assignment Sunday, part of a flurry of moves to cut the roster to the 30 total players they can take to Australia. Guerra, 28, can still be traded while the Dodgers wait to see if he's claimed on waivers. If he goes unclaimed, he could still be sent to triple-A Albuquerque. The Dodgers added two players, Justin Turner and Chone Figgins, to their 40-man roster to fill utility roles. Both will make the trip to Australia.

PHOENIX -- The Dodgers' travel roster for their season-opening series in Australia is taking shape. As of now, Carl Crawford won't make the trip. Crawford remains in waiting for the birth of his third child. In Crawford's absence, Scott Van Slyke figures to be the left fielder on opening day. Van Slyke is batting only one of eight in his career against Arizona Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin, but Manager Don Mattingly likes the matchup between the right-handed-hitting Van Slyke and the left-handed Corbin.
