Bridgestone Plans More Layoffs: Bridgestone Corp., the huge Japanese rubber and plastic manufacturer, said it will lay off another 1,000 employees in its U.S. and European subsidiaries by the end of this year. It has laid off 2,000 workers this year at subsidiaries including Bridgestone-Firestone Inc., its debt-ridden subsidiary in the United States, a Bridgestone official said.

A couple that operates a rubbish company were arrested Monday for ignoring more than 100 misdemeanor citations for dangerous equipment violations and other offenses involving their fleet of garbage trucks. Alfred Banuelos, 61, and his wife Elsie, 58, own AB Rubbish Disposal Service in West Los Angeles, where they were arrested on a six-count complaint filed Friday by the city attorney's office. They were being held in lieu of $10,000 bail each, prosecutors said. City Atty.
