Ruben Oronoz, a Cal State Northridge senior forward, will play a basketball game tonight with no aches, pains or bruises. That's assuming nothing happens to him between now and tonight's 8:05 opener at Nevada Las Vegas. He could fall down a flight of stairs or twist his neck sleeping on the plane or get food poisoning eating an undercooked cheeseburger. The possibilities are endless.

Technical question: If a team rallies from a 6-5 deficit to win, 83-60, does that qualify as a come-from-behind victory? And, if so, can Cal State Northridge justifiably claim that it blew a lead before falling to UCLA Saturday before 9,102 at Pauley Pavilion? The Bruins, ranked from first to sixth in the nation's most-often quoted preseason polls, accomplished the expected against an outmanned but game troupe from the lower echelon of Division I.

College: Rancho Santiago Sport: Basketball Position: Forward Class: Sophomore Oronoz, who is 6 feet 7, led Rancho Santiago in scoring last season, averaging 12.5 points. But he can't be content with that figure this season because, given his shooting talents, Coach Dana Pagett expects the total to be higher. So far, Oronoz, who plays on the wing as well as at forward, hasn't disappointed his coach. The Whittier Christian High graduate is averaging 18.
