One man died and 10 other riders were hurt Friday when train cars filled with passengers broke loose from a locomotive in a dark tunnel on Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction. The accident occurred about 11:20 a.m. after the lead car, decorated to resemble a small red engine, and the open-top passenger cars sped through the faux desert landscape and uphill into a tunnel, where the cars separated and the locomotive derailed.

A 10-year-old boy and his parents suffered minor back and neck injuries late Thursday afternoon after two trains collided on Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad -- the second crash on the ride in three months. The roller coaster, which simulates a runaway mine train, had only recently reopened after a state investigation into a Sept. 5 crash that killed a 22-year-old Gardena man and injured 10 others.

As the state prepares to release its report on the cause of September's fatal crash on Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the attorney for the victim's family said his experts have determined that faulty maintenance is to blame and questioned whether it's part of a larger safety problem at the Anaheim amusement park. Disneyland officials acknowledged late Tuesday that required tasks on the ride were not completed, but they issued strong statements denying broader maintenance flaws.
