Corey Perry is linked with Ryan Getzlaf by more than just their membership on the Ducks' first line. So when Perry's close friend remained sidelined Sunday against the Kings by a leg injury, it was clear who was carrying the heaviest burden in the captain's absence. Consider a regulation goal and the winning shootout shot proper compensation. "When you don't have your top guy out there, everyone knows there's going to be holes and roles to fill," Perry said after the 4-3 victory at Honda Center moved the Ducks (26-8-5)

Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf passed tests on his left ankle Sunday night and Monday morning before officials of the Canadian Olympic team were satisfied his high-ankle sprain had fully healed and kept him on the Vancouver roster. "It's excellent," Getzlaf said Monday. "I'm the happiest guy here, that's for sure." Getzlaf was injured last Monday and didn't play again until Sunday at Edmonton, where he collected two goals and two assists. That wasn't enough, though, and he had to demonstrate his fitness again before Canada submitted its roster.

Under intense pressure to re-establish supremacy on home ice, Canadian Olympic hockey executives announced Wednesday a 23-man roster for the Vancouver Games built around youth, a mobile but tough defense and a deep corps of internationally experienced, two-way forwards. Kings defenseman Drew Doughty, 20, was among the 15 first-time Olympians and 12 players 25 or younger were selected to the team during a nationally televised news conference. The captain will be defenseman Scott Niedermayer, one of seven members of the struggling Ducks to earn an Olympic nomination Wednesday.

The Ducks' torrid pace had slowed the last few weeks, but they regrouped in time to clinch their second Pacific Division title in franchise history and the No. 2 seeding in the playoffs. Goaltender Viktor Fasth made 24 saves and Ryan Getzlaf, Radek Dvorak and Sami Vatanen each scored goals Monday to give the Ducks a 3-0 victory over the Oilers at Edmonton and a sweep of the teams' back-to-back games. The Ducks previously won a division title in 2007 as a springboard to winning the Stanley Cup. They started this season impressively but had struggled to score lately.

The Ducks finally looked like the team they were before the Olympic break Sunday — maybe even better — in a 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks at the Honda Center. Too bad the Olympics have been over for two weeks. It was a feel-good game until the third period, when two of the Ducks' best players — Teemu Selanne and Ryan Getzlaf — left the ice with injuries within minutes of each other and didn't return. Selanne, who scored his 599th NHL goal earlier in the game and kept buzzing around the net for No. 600, slid hard into the boards after tripping on a stick on a scoring attempt with 18:16 left.
