Three losses may not sound like the end of their baseball world, but given that they had won 36 of their previous 44 games, it's nothing if not a change of pace. It was their second consecutive one-run loss to the Reds, and in this one they were done in by the speed of stolen-base sensation Billy Hamilton.

Andre Ethier took batting practice Wednesday and performed the other baseball-related drills "I would regularly do if I was playing in the game," he said. But Ethier was not playing in the game, having been put on the 15-day disabled list earlier in the day because of a strained rib-cage muscle. He joined the Dodgers' other slugger, Matt Kemp , who's out because of a hamstring injury. Mark Ellis , meanwhile, was activated after injuring his left leg so badly May 19 that he required emergency surgery.

The Dodgers completed a three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday night with a 4-3 victory at Dodger Stadium that included 10 strikeouts by Clayton Kershaw, a two-run home run by Manny Ramirez and four hits by James Loney.

The Dodgers' 5-4 victory over the San Diego Padres introduced him to another potential consequence, as his fifth-inning plunking of Ryan Ludwick started a sequence that ended with both benches clearing. "Mine wasn't on purpose," Broxton said. L.A. Times Dodgers blog No matter.
