Mirroring efforts by several major car makers to trim their retail networks, Saab Cars USA has acquired the three Saab franchises that once served Orange County and Long Beach and turned over the entire territory to a single dealer. Campbell Automotive Group in Santa Ana said Tuesday that it has been awarded the exclusive right to sell Saab automobiles in the region. Saab acquired and closed its Long Beach dealership in 1996 and its Mission Viejo franchise last year.

Volkswagen and Toyota Motor Corp. topped the list of vehicle recall reminders announced this month by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in its campaign to increase owner response to the safety alerts. NHTSA said Volkswagen is recalling 311,047 Passat and Jetta sedans to fix a fuel tank filler problem and 55,000 cars to repair brakes that can catch fire.

By any name, the new paint option -- featured in the company's press materials and advertising for the car -- makes a bold statement about the redesigned 9-3 convertible: It's here, it's Swedish, get used to it.
