Junior Dominic Davis of Mission Hills Alemany is following the legacy established by former Sherman Oaks Notre Dame sprinter Khalfani Muhammad by showing there's still lots of speed from Mission League athletes. On Saturday, Davis ran the 100 meters in 10.47 seconds to win the invitational race at the Mt. San Antonio College High School Invitational. Like Muhammad, who won the state championship in the 100 and 200, Davis is also a running back in football. Loyola's 400-meter relay team won its race in 41.58.

Blake Griffin said the bursa sac in his swollen right elbow was drained after Sunday's game against the Chicago Bulls at Staples Center. Griffin had the same elbow drained last season. "It's still a little big," Griffin said Tuesday. "But they put some anti-inflammatory fluid in there. It should go down in the next couple of days. " Griffin said he was told that it wouldn't be a good idea to have surgery on the bursa sac right now. "If you do, there's an increased chance of arthritis," Griffin said.

SAC Capital Advisors pleaded guilty to criminal fraud charges Friday, satisfying a deal with the government that requires the Connecticut hedge fund to pay a record $1.8 billion to settle charges that it allowed, if not encouraged, insider trading to occur for more than a decade. The plea came in U.S. District Court in New York four days after the government announced that the once-influential hedge fund owned by billionaire Steven A. Cohen had reached the deal that also required it to shut down its operations to outside investors.

The expectations are so high for Sarah Baxter of Simi Valley that not breaking a course record is considered a disappointment. But Baxter still won her race on Saturday during the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational in 16 minutes, 11 seconds, 11 seconds slower than last year's record performance for three miles. Baxter has never lost a high school cross country race. NEW YORK -- The federal government has launched a rare criminal prosecution of a major Wall Street firm: SAC Capital Advisors, a hedge-fund operator that investigators have long suspected of illegally trading on inside information. U.S. Atty. Preet Bharara, the top federal prosecutor in Manhattan, announced the grand jury's indictment of SAC Capital on Thursday. The indictment, which names SAC Capital and related entities, alleges one count of wire fraud and four counts of securities fraud.

NEW YORK -- A prosecution of SAC Capital Advisors would not only imperil the major hedge fund, but it would also signal a tougher government stance toward Wall Street. According to news reports, federal prosecutors in Manhattan are close to filing criminal charges against SAC Capital, a Connecticut-based firm known known for its remarkable returns and, recently, as the focus of the government's years-long crackdown on insider trading. The U.S. Justice Department has been weary of bringing criminal cases against corporations in recent years, mindful that prosecution led to the death of Arthur Andersen, Enron's accounting firm.

NEW YORK -- SAC Capital Advisors, the giant hedge fund that has been in the federal government's cross hairs, came out in support of one of its portfolio managers accused of insider trading. FBI agents arrested Michael Steinberg at his home on Manhattan's Upper East Side early Friday morning. Federal prosecutors later announced a five-count indictment alleging that Steinberg was part of a insider-trading scheme on Wall Street.  In a statement, SAC Capital stood behind Steinberg: "Mike has conducted himself professionally and ethically during his long tenure at the firm.

Burbank has been the target of a well-organized, misleading propaganda campaign by the Toluca Lake Homeowners Assn. to build seven cul-de-sacs on the streets going west from Pass Avenue. The Toluca Lake section of Burbank is very small. A majority of the members of the homeowners association do not live in Burbank, but in the North Hollywood section of Toluca Lake. The cul-de-sac proponents seek to install these barriers at the expense of Burbank taxpayers. They want to create a private, gated community at no cost to them and without regard to the adverse effect it will have on the safety of the apartment renters and homeowners who live on or close to Pass Avenue.

In another sign of the government's intense focus on illicit trading on Wall Street, the FBI early Friday arrested a longtime SAC Capital Advisors portfolio manager on insider-trading charges.  Federal agents took Michael Steinberg into custody at his residence on Manhattan's Upper East Side, an FBI spokesman said. More information about the charges was to be released later in the day. Steinberg, 40, who has worked at the firm since 1997, would reportedly be the most senior of the hedge fund's employees to face charges in the government's wide-ranging investigation into insider trading.
