George Bethune, an outside linebacker who spent 1989 and 1990 with the Rams, was taken by the Sacramento Surge as the first pick in the World League of American Football's second draft. Babe Laufenberg, who last played for the Dallas Cowboys in 1990, was the second pick. Laufenberg was taken by the expansion Ohio Glory.

Mike Pringle says he knows what you might be thinking, and he would like you to stop. "It's a competitive league," he says with assurance, not irritation. "It's professional football." Pringle, 24, who ran around or over most of the Big West Conference as a Cal State Fullerton senior in 1989, is playing in the World League for the Sacramento Surge, which plays London Sunday on a trip that surpasses even those far-flung destinations from his Titan days.

Mike Pringle, Cal State Fullerton's No. 2 all-time leading rusher, was chosen by the Sacramento Surge Tuesday in the second round of the World League of American Football draft. "I'm glad Sacramento chose me because I love playing in California," said Pringle, the 13th overall selection and the first running back selected. Pringle's NFL career has been limited to two games with the Falcons. Atlanta released him Aug. 26 in the final cut before the start of the regular season.
