As emergency aid trickles in to St. Croix, residents of that devastated island and many on neighboring St. Thomas have taken matters into their own hands, shuttling back and forth over the 27 miles of choppy seas with care packages--boxes of provisions, batteries, water, food and sometimes just concern. With the St. Thomas airport closed much of this week because of the hurricane and torrential rains that followed, the ferry boat was the only way to go.
