A cold autumn rain pounds the ground outside Coach John Gagliardi's office--a definite threat to wash out Monday's football practice. What's this? There is never a Monday practice? OK then, you figure the coach might huddle with his coordinators, go over the playbook, grade film from the big weekend win at Augsburg. Nice thought, except there are no coordinators, no playbook, no film-grading. How about a quick check of the bulletin board for the latest football statistics?

He is only 19, but already Felipe Lopez's bony shoulders are carrying the combined hopes and dreams of his family, the Dominican Republic, the Big East Conference, St. John's University and anyone else who can squeeze aboard. His father owned and operated Carnesecca's Italian Delicatessen on Manhattan's East Side. Little Looie gave his old man a hand as soon as he got home from Our Lady of Perpetual Help grammar school, this being back in the mid-1930s, long before he joined the Coast Guard and went off to serve in the war and then came home to play and coach basketball for St. John's University in Queens. The deli was his kind of place. "Ay, 'Carnesecca!'

St. John's (19-13) is its 25th NIT and St. Louis (27-9) is appearing for the 14th time, but it's been years since either won the championship of the country's oldest postseason tournament. What if cameras were installed at other college basketball venues and headquarters across the country? And what if the results of those preseason photo shoots were now available to the general public? Guess what? You're in luck.
