Kitchen appliance maker Salton Inc., which manufactures George Foreman grills and other home gadgets, said it was forming a special panel to explore a possible sale of the company. Salton executives said a three-member committee, along with financial advisor Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin Capital Inc., would "explore strategic alternatives" that could also include a merger. Shares of Lake Forest, Ill.-based Salton climbed 58 cents to $2.93.

Attorneys general from 43 states have settled an antitrust suit for $8.2 million against a wholesaler accused of muscling retail stores into fixing the price of George Foreman grills. Housewares manufacturer Salton Inc. also was accused of coercing stores into excluding rival grills from their shelves. George Foreman, an Olympic gold medal winner and product pitchman, was not involved in the anti-competitive practices, the attorneys general said.

Salton Inc., the maker of George Foreman barbecue grills, bought the right to use Viacom Inc.'s Westinghouse brand name to spur sales of small kitchen appliances, fans and air purifiers. The companies agreed to a six-year licensing contract; terms weren't disclosed. Salton, based in Lake Forest, Ill., also gets the brand's Circle W trademark and its slogan "You can be sure ... if it's a Westinghouse." Salton plans to start selling a line of Westinghouse-brand vacuums. Salton's shares rose $1.

About 870,000 Fun N' Games magnetic dartboards, made in China and imported by Henry Gordy International Inc., were recalled because small magnets on the darts can detach and young children can swallow them, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract one another and cause internal damage. The products were sold at Family Dollar stores nationwide from September 2002 through last month. Kraft Foods recalled white chocolate distributed in the United States because of possible salmonella contamination. Kraft said consumers who purchased its 6-ounce Baker's Premium White Chocolate Baking Squares should discard the product. The recalled product was distributed nationally and has the UPC Code 0043000252200 and "for best when used by" dates of March 31, April 1, April 2 and April 3, 2008.
