Ceilings of intricate tin panels are out of the ordinary, but ones of peacock feathers and leather? That's extraordinary. Artist Denise Roberge runs her gallery, jewelry salon and restaurant out of a plaza that she built about a decade ago in Palm Desert. When she was finished, she wanted to create a more subdued version of the art-rich plaza as a place to live.

Would Homer Simpson sell his house to Moe Szyslak, Apu, Chief Wiggum or Comic Book Guy? Dan Castellaneta , the voice of Homer on "The Simpsons," has done just that, selling to Hank Azaria , who voices those characters and more on the 22-season-and-counting animated sitcom. Castellaneta and his wife, television writer Deb Lacusta , sold their Pacific Palisades home of five years for $5.5 million. Azaria is downsizing from a 9,000-square-foot home in Bel Air with seven bedrooms and 10 bathrooms that he sold earlier this month for $11,065,000.

Larry Hagman's widow, Maj, has sold their longtime mountaintop home in Ojai for $5 million. The 43-acre spread, befitting "Dallas" oilman J.R. Ewing, had been listed in 2009 at $11 million. The seven-bedroom, 10-bathroom Mediterranean-style estate was designed and built for the couple in 1992. The off-the-grid property has separate solar systems providing energy for the main residence, the well and the caretaker's home, while creating surplus power. When Hagman installed the first system in 2003, his annual electric bill went from $37,000 to $13. Sitting behind iron gates, the 18,000-square-foot main house has an open floor plan with walls of sliding glass doors, painted murals, an indoor grotto-style spa and a retractable roof over a 40-foot saltwater lap pool in the grand room, which has accommodated parties of up to 200 people.

This contemporary in Mount Olympus, designed for work and play, makes the most of its panoramic views from downtown Los Angeles to the ocean. The 1976 home, redone from the studs and updated with new appliances and amenities, is landscaped with succulents, pear trees, Mexican feather grass and other greenery to create a contemplative setting behind its gates.
