Eleven children were briefly hospitalized Monday after two teenagers sprayed a school bus with an unidentified liquid. The two youths, whom officers are seeking, sprayed the liquid as their car passed the bus about 4 p.m. The bus was carrying 33 children. The 11 who were examined and released at San Clemente Hospital and Medical Center complained of eye irritation but had no other injuries.

A 15-year-old boy who was struck and killed when he darted into the street was identified Tuesday as Timothy Jackes of Laguna Niguel. Jackes was pronounced dead at San Clemente Hospital and Medical Center after being struck about 6 p.m. Monday in the 2900 block of Calle Frontera. The driver who struck him, Renee Brant, 18, was not cited pending the outcome of an investigation, a police spokesman said.

A Yucaipa man apparently drowned Tuesday while surfing at Doheny State Beach with his two sons, authorities said. Kenneth Pierce, 51, was pulled from the surf off the Dana Point beach about 5:30 p.m. by one of the sons, said Joseph Luckey, a supervising deputy Orange County coroner. The son called paramedics, who along with lifeguards administered CPR. Pierce was taken to San Clemente Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The city and the Orange County Fire Authority are sponsoring a "Vial of Life" event at the Community Center on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be a question-and-answer session with firefighters and paramedics, and residents will receive a free blood pressure screening and Vial of Life bottles, prepared by the San Clemente Hospital and Medical Center, that contain important medical information.
