Harvard 45, St. Genevieve 6--Tailback Marty Holly scored 3 touchdowns to give Harvard (6-3, 1-2) a San Fernando Valley League victory at Harvard. Holly, who has been hampered by a hamstring injury in each leg, scored on runs of 15 and 24 yards and caught a 45-yard scoring pass from quarterback Scott Collins. Holly rushed 28 times for 96 yards and made 2 receptions for 49 yards.

Monroe High registered its second-highest scoring output of the season in beating Jefferson, 105-92, Friday night in the consolation semifinals of the California Basketball Classic at Westchester High. Monroe (8-5), under first-year Coach Wendell Greer Jr., has doubled its four-win total from last season and will play Dorsey at 6 tonight for the consolation championship. Stanley Deal led Monroe with 27 points. Monroe's True Tribne had 20 points and 12 rebounds.

If the revamped Santa Fe League was packaged like a box of laundry detergent, an appropriate bright, shiny label would read "new and improved." The fledgling San Fernando Valley League, with Santa Fe leftovers Bell-Jeff, Chaminade, Harvard and St. Genevieve, and former Del Rey League power Notre Dame, promises to be a better package for the basketball consumer--satisfaction guaranteed. "It's going to be competitive," Bell-Jeff Coach Joe Dunn said.

Bell-Jeff COACH: Steve Wahl, 1st season LAST SEASON: 9-15; 4th in league, 5-5 PLAYERS TO WATCH: Wahl replaces Joe Dunn, who stepped down after 12 seasons in August because of personal reasons. Three junior starters, swingman Brian Lee (6-foot-3), point guard Bryon Camacho (5-7) and guard Ignacio Castro (6-0) return. Wahl calls Lee the top all-around player. "He can play forward, guard or center and score and rebound," Wahl said. Camacho averaged 11.

Josh Smith singled to right-center field to drive in Roland De La Maza in the eighth inning, lifting St. Genevieve High over Chaminade, 4-3, in a San Fernando Valley League baseball opener Wednesday at St. Genevieve. Chaminade (5-10 overall) tied the score, 3-3, in the fifth inning when Pete Miller's ground out scored Jeff Burdick. Carlos Concha and Smith combined for six of the Valiants' nine hits. De La Maza (6-2) limited Chaminade to six hits, all singles. St. Genevieve improved to 7-5, 1-0 in league play.

Dave Hoffman, who will move to his third school in four seasons, has been hired to coach the Chaminade High basketball team, the school announced Thursday. On a busy day at the West Hills campus, Chaminade also announced the hiring of Barbara Gomperz as the girls' volleyball coach and Bernie Kyman as athletic director. Kyman and Hoffman replace Mike Lynn, whose resignation as basketball coach and athletic director takes effect at the end of the school year.

Becca Berline and Lisa Asahara combined on a no-hitter and allowed only one batter to reach base as Notre Dame High defeated Louisville, 14-0, in a San Fernando Valley League softball opener at Louisville on Monday. Berline (5-4), a junior right-hander, pitched the first four innings, striking out four. Asahara pitched the final three innings and struck out three. Neither walked a batter and the only Louisville runner to reach base did so on an error. In another San Fernando Valley League opener: Chaminade 14, St. Genevieve 2--Kerry Corcoran had three hits and five RBIs, including a three-run double in the fourth, to lead Chaminade at St. Genevieve.

In other girls' basketball games: L.A. Baptist 50, Marshall Fundamental 39--Jill Shackelford scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds as the host Knights won their fifth in a row in an Alpha League game. Notre Dame 34, St. Genevieve 32--Chrissi Bernap scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Knights (4-12, 1-2) in a San Fernando Valley League game at Notre Dame.

Bell-Jeff 14, St. Genevieve 13--The Guards won their first game of the season in a sloppy afternoon game at Burroughs High despite committing four turnovers on their first five possessions. Bell-Jeff (1-7, 1-1) scored on the opening kickoff. The Valiants' Tom Nickels shanked the kick, pushing the ball only a few yards downfield. Bell-Jeff's Richard Samkow scooped it up and ran 45 yards untouched for the score.
