A group of canine lovers has picked three sites along the coast for a potential off-leash dog park in San Pedro. The group is consulting with the office of Los Angeles Councilman Rudy Svorinich Jr., who represents the harbor area, and with Freeplay, an organization that successfully lobbied to create an off-leash dog park in Venice.

San Pedro community leaders and local politicians have enlisted Rep. Jane Harman (D-Marina Del Rey) in their fight to stop a large homeless shelter from being set up in the city. The shelter is expected to open on a 27-acre site on Taper Avenue after the Navy moves out this summer. Harman told a meeting of about 50 homeowners earlier this month that she may introduce amendments to the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act.
