Several city officials are questioning a $340,000 consulting contract that was awarded last month to a firm owned by two former city board members who resigned their posts so they could bid on the contract. When Kathleen Rosenow resigned earlier this year from the Community Redevelopment Commission, she explained that her eight-year membership on the board had prevented her consulting firm from doing business with the city.

The City Council recently selected a Seal Beach development firm, the Olson Co., to build two residential housing projects for the 5-year-old Artists Village. Housing for resident artists is considered by city officials to be the final piece to the downtown artist colony puzzle. The main development will be a four-level, 40- to 80-unit residential project with loft and flat-style apartments, retail, restaurant and possible gallery space.

The firm Orange County Super Sweep will be paid $13,456 to sweep the Civic Center and Centennial Park parking lots for a year. The company will remove litter with a vacuum mounted on the truck. Money for the project will come from city maintenance accounts.
