MUSIC Radiohead's "The King of Limbs," which was abruptly made available for download via the band's website, can be heard from several different angles. Fans and critics have already been registering wildly divergent reactions: Some think it's one of the band's best efforts; others find it too low-key or similar to previous work; a few consider it awfully doomy, and a few others wish it were less abstract. The stature and skill of this band allow for so many interpretations that even a decisively unpretentious work like this one sends listeners wide to find its headwaters.

* * UB40, "Promises and Lies," Virgin. If you've heard one album by this veteran English reggae band, you've heard them all. This adds some dancehall touches here and there, but the sound still revolves around the familiar shuffling gait and Ali Campbell's limited, if distinctive, singing, as typified in the No. 1 hit version of "Can't Help Falling in Love." Any overall evolution is so subtle as to be negligible. The group begins an extensive Southland swing on Tuesday at the Santa Barbara Bowl.

"LL Cool J is hard as hell," the rapper-turned-"NCIS" star proclaimed Friday on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" -- news that might come as a surprise to anyone who's made the slog through his lumpy new album , "Authentic. " Yet if "Authentic" presents LL Cool J with all the intensity of the hashtag-obsessed Grammy host he's become, the veteran MC's live-wire "Fallon" performance actually delivered on his promise: Backed up by DJ Z-Trip, he ripped through his 1985 classic "Rock the Bells" (the source of the hard-as-hell boast)

Now that anyone with a laptop can make decently epic soundscapes, how will Sigur Rós keep its lead? On "Valtari," it does it by using all its usual tricks, but in even more evocative and expert ways. On "Valtari" it's back to the essentials: oceanic buildups, flickers of treated orchestras and falsetto vocal lines that yank heartstrings, even though you know exactly when they're coming.
