Cypress College President Christine Johnson has been inducted into the State Center Community College District's Wall of Honor at the African-American Museum in Fresno. The first African American woman to receive the State District's Outstanding Alumni Award in 1991, Johnson is also Cypress College's first African American president.

A series of audits at Marvin Avenue School this spring found that more than $300,000 in federal earthquake recovery funds could not be accounted for and that employees signed in for nearly 2,000 hours they didn't work over a two-year period. The audit reports, obtained by The Times under the California Public Records Act, also said that the school lacks records to account for $32,000 in outside donations, including $20,000 from the German government.

A bitter fight between a Los Angeles elementary school principal and the teachers union has spilled into the neighborhood, where it threatens to inflame race relations by pitting Latino parents against the African American administrator. Wednesday evening, the union held a meeting with about 60 Latino parents and children in the frontyard of a home near Marvin Avenue School and urged them to join its effort to remove Principal Anna McLinn.
