A carload of students headed for Antelope Valley High School in Lancaster collided with a school bus bound for the same campus early Tuesday, injuring the bus driver and seven students from both vehicles, authorities said. The crash occurred about 6:35 a.m.

Two hearing-impaired students and a Lynwood man were injured Wednesday when a car collided with a school bus. The bus, driven by Jeanette James, 37, of Bellflower, collided with a Nissan Altima driven by Edgar Ovando, 64, said California Highway Patrol officer John Tye. The accident occurred about 7:35 a.m. at Rosecrans and Oleander avenues. A 5-year-old girl suffered a cut above her left eye and was taken to King/Drew Medical Center, Tye said.

More than a dozen elementary school students were hurt Monday when their school bus stopped suddenly to avoid colliding with a car, the California Highway Patrol reported. The students from Quail Valley Elementary School were on their way home at 2:39 p.m. when a red compact car swerved in front of their bus at the intersection of 55th Street East and Avenue R-8, CHP Officer Todd Powers said. "There was no collision," said Becky McIntyre of the Palmdale School District.

Seven vehicles, including a school bus, collided Thursday in a bizarre chain-reaction accident that also involved two young pedestrians and a jogger, though no one was seriously injured, authorities said. "The possibility for [the accident] having a tragic ending was there," said Carolyn Burch, principal of Francis Polytechnic High School, which two of the victims attend. The accident occurred about 8 a.m. at Whitsett Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard in Sun Valley.

Fifteen elementary school students suffered minor injuries Tuesday when the driver of their school bus slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a dog, officials said. The animal darted in front of the Los Angeles Unified School District bus about 9 a.m. as the bus approached the intersection of Sunland Boulevard and Wheatland Avenue, Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Jan Bernard said. The driver hit the brakes and 15 of her passengers, ages 8 to 10, hit the seats in front of them, Bernard said.

Ten elementary school students complained of pains after the school bus in which they were riding was rear-ended early Friday by a U.S. mail tractor-trailer rig on the San Diego Freeway in Inglewood, officials said. There were no serious injuries as a result of the 7:30 a.m. accident on the freeway near La Cienega Boulevard, California Highway Patrol Officer Kimberly Skow said. "There were no cuts, no bleeding. The children mainly complained of minor pains," she said.

A car struck the back of a school bus in Santa Clarita on Wednesday, causing minor injuries to 10 junior high school students, the California Highway Patrol said. The youths complained of minor head and neck pain, officers said. Seven were treated at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia and three were taken to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.

The pilot of a charter plane that clipped two school buses in an emergency landing in Van Nuys had made an unscheduled landing earlier in the day to unload his passengers because of apparent instrument trouble, the charter company said Thursday. Pilot Michael G. Busch had reported erratic engine gauge readings aboard the 1969 Cessna 402A on a flight from Van Nuys to Arizona on Wednesday, prompting him to make a precautionary landing in Bullhead City, Ariz., Sunshine Airlines said in a statement.

A car slammed head-on into a school van Tuesday in Baldwin Park, causing minor injuries to both drivers and one student, the California Highway Patrol reported. The school van carrying special education students from Baldwin Park and Hacienda Heights was hit by a 1983 Buick Skylark as the bus traveled east on North Garvey Avenue about 7:45 a.m., CHP investigators said. Although all four students in the van were taken to a hospital to be examined, only one was injured.

At least 15 students returning to Jordan High School from a senior outing at Knott's Berry Farm suffered minor injuries Friday night when one school bus sideswiped another as they were traveling westbound on the Artesia Freeway, police said. The accident occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. near Pioneer Boulevard in Artesia, said Bret Williams, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman.

A Van Nuys woman who pushed her son out of harm's way was seriously injured Friday morning when she was struck by a school bus in a crosswalk, authorities said. The accident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. when Ana Maria Picolomini, 46, of Van Nuys, was walking with her son eastbound across Sepulveda Boulevard at Valerio Street, California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Jensen said. A Laidlaw school bus carrying children hit her while making a left turn onto southbound Sepulveda Boulevard.
